Okay I have new computer, I downloaded core ftp and downloaded my existing website
into my computer. I also installed my old copy of frontpage 98 (which I created the site with). That is where I get lost.

How do I get my website into Frontpage again? I know this should be easy by Frontpage keeps asking me for a username and password to get into my "root web" whatever that is.

Its been a long time since I did this, had someone doing the site for me, so give it to me in dummy terms.

Thanks for any help!!

Johnny

Where is your site located on your computer?. Is this the onyproblem you are having with Fp ? Do you have a web server installed? What operating system do you use?. are you running as administrator if vista? I don't have vista so I can't really help there  and I never used FP

If the downloaded website is located in a forlder on your hard drive try right clicking on the folder and click properties then uncheck read only--if it is checked--same thing if it is located on a server [like xampp or wamp] on your computer--uncheck read only..

    That's all I got

Actually, if FrontPage is asking for the credentials that means its trying to open the website from the remote server, not the saved copy at your PC.

in FP go to File --> Open --> browse to where you downloaded your site and choose the index.html file to open it.

    Done

Looks like FP 98 has a few quirks...Why anyone would still use it is beyond me. I think coffee-cup editor will import a FP site--at least that is being updated--and is quite nice--I also think there is a nice free one on the internet...
