Ecommerce sites - bigcommerce or not?

Posted this in the main forum, then realised it would prob be better off here:

I currently have a well established ecommerce dropshipping site that is hosted through bigcommerce. I chose BC because when i started out i knew nothing (i'm still not too knowledgable!!) about ecommerce and the ease of use sold it to me.

I'm now looking at starting a second store and wanted to move away for BC so that i had no monthly costs.

I don't want to lose the ability to do all of the things that can be done with BC though. Namely these are easy SEO ability and easy uploading of products via .csv files. BC is extremely friendly when it comes to all the features and it allowed me (as a COMPLETE newbie) to rank extremely well on google and make my business a success.

I'm clueless on .php HTML etc. and so the initial design of the site would be outsourced. But what i want to know is whats the best ecommerce solution for a site that needs to be updated regularly by a newbie?

I've heard great things about OScommerce, but how easy is onsite SEO for this and how easy is the uploading/changing/updating of products i.e. stock levels, prices, images, etc.?

I don't want to start a bitch fight between developers saying how joomla is better than this or zencart is that, i just want to know which is the easiest for a newbie like me to use and what are the best features?

If you are as much of a newbie as you say. Then I would NOT go with OScommerce.

On that note, you should check out Shopify. It is a great tool with a great interface for newbies!

My suggestion: If BC is working for you, then don't split away from them.

I hear what you're saying about sticking with BC if its working, but the problem is i have alot of products and as such, the prices for solutions go through the roof. The one that i have just been looking at is prostores. It seems like its a really good platform and is fairly cheap in comparison. Plus i've heard good things about the SEO ability of it.

Have you ever heard of/used prostores??

I had not heard of them until now. One of my employees said that his mother uses prostores to sell items for her small business..

I would assume that if his mother can do it, you can too!

Best of luck with your venture.

I just posted this in the 'Easiest website/shopping cart setup?' topic

"I just opened my own store using Interspire Shopping Cart software. I have about 475 products in my store so we're pretty similar.

I purchased the $995 Professional licence and it has been pretty great so far. I'm a graphic designer and I know my way around code enough to customize the templates to where I wanted. They have a lot of pretty nice templates to choose from and integrating merchant accounts was relatively painless. Also they have awesome integration with Amazon, Ebay, and many affiliate software (Which I am thinking about setting up for my company). You can try an online demo - Also I think you can get a 1 month free trial.

Their customer support has been great. My two favorite parts about the software are the incredible amounts of SEO you can do to your products, pages, and categories. The best part being their bulk upload feature. If you put together an insanely complete, accurate excel document and save it out as a .CSV the whole store can be uploaded. It took my VA to get my excel document put together almost a month. There are a ton of videos to teach you how to do everything.

I have no affiliation with the company, this is just my experience. I haven't tried any others though. Inspire had everything I was looking for if you can put up $1k.

Edit: I had links to their pricing page, demo page, and a link to my site using the software but I don't have 15 posts. I'm sure you'll be able to find them."

Interspire seems to do everything you want it to do that BigCommerce does. Also there is a 1 time payment of $995 instead of a monthly fee. You can try the one month free trial and see how your bulk uploading content with a .csv compares. I suggest atleast checking out Inspire's software videos because they are very informative and I think the backend CP is beautiful!

Thanks for that - i hadn't even thought of interspire (i'm a dumbass!! lol) will check it out. How is the pricing system worked out for the lisenced version - it says that it costs from about $300 where as you say you paid nearly $1k?

For $295 you can only have 100 products in your store. for $995 you can have up to 5,000. That's the main difference. There are a variety of other perks you get for getting the Professional Licence as opposed to the Starter. I would link you to it but I don't have 15 posts yet. Just google: Interspire Shopping Cart Pricing.

ECommerce is really great and amazing. There are software that are available in the market but remember that not all software are good it sometimes contain viruses.. So we must be careful.

The problem with both volusion and shopify is the price - it goes up massively the more products you have, this is why i'm looking at my own liscensed shopping cart or a cheap option like prostores in the first place!!
