I dont know what exactly is going on, but somehow spammers are sending tons of pingback spam to an image on my blog.

The article the imagewas used in has pingbacks turned off, so how are the spammers pinging the image itself?

I even turned off pingbacks in the discussion global settings, but they are still coming in.

I had a similar problem a while ago and fixed it by turning off pingbacks on the article itself (having already turned off Global Pingbacks without success).

    Full details here:

We are absolutely thrilled and relieved that our spam problems are over. ... If you are using our plugin please visit the GrowMap Anti-Spam WordPress plugin page .... plugin to filter those if you have a problem with pingback or trackback spam.

If they are all coming in from the same, or a few similar IP addresses, use the WP_Ban plugin. I've stopped all spam to multiple blogs with this.

I keep a master list of all spam IPs from all my blogs in WordPad, and whenever I need to add another IP address I add it to the master, then cut and paste that updated list into all my blogs.

I also us the plugin to block repeat spam posters.

Just on one random blog, the stats show that 41,562 spam attempts have been blocked.
