Can I get a good free theme inside Wordpress?

I would suggest searching through google instead... there are lots of good free theme out there.

I personally use Woothemes on my graphic design blog and I absolutely love and recommend their framework to anyone. I am using a paid premium theme but they do offer free themes as well. I think it will be worth checking out: Free | WooThemes

Not sure if any of those fit your criteria for a professional sales page.

I also suggest checking out Best Quality Wordpress Themes Review and Rating . If you scroll down on the right hand side you can sort by free themes vs paid. As well as many other categories including theme structure, theme category, and theme ranking. Themegrade basically evaluates Wordpress themes based on almost 20 different featured including design, SEO, and compatibility.

No, still haven't found anything that I want to use, and I've been looking for hours. I was considering buying Thesis, as that was the recommendation of one guy, as you can do anything with it, but I'm not sure. Can I download a zip file, and then use it over and over as thousands of different designs?

The ones you are looking at - are blog themes. Ugly or not, they do what a BLOG theme is supposed to do.

You want to use (tweak?) WP to function as something different, namely, a sales page... and you wonder why they don't provide tools for that. Because the main usage of the script by many million users is not to make sales pages but to make blogs.

Now, if you know a bit a html/css/(php) you can create your own sales pages or add sales page template to any theme... or buy solutions (sales page themes etc.) for your specific needs.

Finally, asking for a "good theme" in your title is almost nonsense - without defining exactly what's "good" for you. Definitely, not the same as for me.

For me a highly customizable theme like the default 2010 and 2011 are very good themes. Better than most paid themes!

As for a free & highly customizable theme (and its child themes) I'd recommend to take a look at Hybrid. There is a learning curve but you can outsource it in case you don't want to learn it.

BTW, if you need just a salespage... why the heck would you use WP?

Can you recommend a good free (or cheap) place to get just a sales page? I only started building my own hosted websites a couple of weeks ago. Or can you recommend how I might learn to tweak the template code?

you want something professional but you don't want to pay for it...well, that's your problem right there.

I'm so sick of people's entitlement attitude online. It's ridiculous. In this life you get what you pay for. PERIOD! If you were to open an offline business, you'd be paying for offices, decor, etc...but because it's online everyone thinks stuff should be free or cheap, and then when hard-working designers do create free stuff it's touted as amateurish.

Well that's just BS and one of the reasons I rarely create free templates or themes anymore, because of people like you who expect the world for nothing.

Well no offense, but I don't have much money, and I think you'll find you can find almost anything for free on the net if you search hard enough. Free music, free video, free information, and people get paid from advertising on the page, affiliate links, and donations. It's not a new thing, libraries have been doing the same thing with free books for years.

The basic problem is you don't know what you want. Period.

You keep looking at WP blog themes whereas you need a salespage template. No, they are NOT the same.

You are not able to formulate clearly what you want - therefore you don't get the expected "free" advice.

Try to describe what "professional sales page" means. Then people might be able to point you to some examples...

EDIT. btw, fancy looking sales pages do NOT make sales - professionally written sales copy makes the sales. Just sayin'

Libraries don't provide FREE books for you to borrow.

They are heavily subsidised institutions. You pay for libraries through your taxes.

Fair enough, when I first started making money online, I was looking for only free methods, and I managed to make a few thousand bucks, without paying anything, and I still am from free methods, and making nothing at all from paid methods. I could make a free site on Google Sites for pay per click, but then my quality score wouldn't be as high as on Wordpress, or so I've heard. I downloaded a free sales page for signing up to an email list, and it looks OK for a free one. If I pay the $27 I can get it to work with my existing templates. Is it better than Google Sites? Is the quality score that important, that it will change my cost per click from one cent a click to two cents a click on some keywords? I don't know.

Yes that's all I was asking for, some free advice. That's what this forum is supposed to be about. We should be helping each other here, and not looking to make money out of each other. I'll give you something for free, get the screenshot pimp add on on Firefox, and every single video online is yours to download for free, then you can get all the music on You Tube by converting the FLV file to MP3, or MP4. Is this wrong? Probably. The question still stands, if Google actively says that you can create a free site on Google sites to use for pay per click, would they penalize you in your quality score for using that as a landing page? I might as well try it, it's free, apart from my time, and the cost of the ads. Save me buying a domain name.

I figured something out if anyone's interested, I used the first page result on the Google search of free wordpress salespage templates, and I simply used the page theme plugin to set a different theme for one page on my website, so I now have a free sales page in that theme on cheapstylus dot com/double-your-reading-speed/, while the rest of the site is still in the old theme. I think it only works as a different theme when people come from outside the main site. A free sales page, which should work for pay per click, once I make it look good.

Well, I wouldn't have said anything bad if I knew the designers were listening, the free templates are good for blogs, but they're not really sales pages, although I guess they could be. I'm happy to leave the rest of my site the way it is in the free template from Wordpress, cause I couldn't find a better one, but now one page on the site is a free sales page for a different product, in a different sales page template. Of course, it isn't perfect, it has blank links for contact, terms and conditions, and privacy policy, and it has a back link to the site I got it from, but it could be used effectively to make sales from pay per click, and without even the cost of buying a new domain.

There are some ok free themes inside of wordpress. Personally, I would invest in a premium theme if you want to take your blog seriously. There is a big difference in appearance which will in turn affect how seriously your visitors take your site.
