Make a Mobile Website Without Paying Extra?

Ok, so I have a few local clients who want mobile versions of their website. I know there are plenty of services out there that give you mobile website templates to customize and then you pay a monthly fee to have them host the site for you.

I'm wondering if I have to use one of those services to make and host a mobile site?

What would be ideal is if I could use/buy a mobile website template, customize it, and then add it to the client's current hosting account so they don't have to pay an extra monthly fee to use a service like mofuse.com or one of the others. Know what I mean?

Let me know if this is possible or any other suggestions you have regarding making a mobile website.

Thanks for your input!

You can certainly make your own and host them on the existing hosting, there's a handful of popular wso's and threads here that will give you all the guidance you need - you won't go far wrong just doing a search for the term mobile here on the forum

    Hope that helps

Yeah, I've done some searching and reading, but all I've seen are links to website builder sites that do the hosting too. I don't need a wso on mobile marketing, which is all I've seen so far. might just be missing one.

Willr's and Quentins, amongst others WSO's show specifically how to build mobile sites for yourself without mobile site builders, as well as show you how to upload them to your own hosting, etc

I bought Quentins and I can tell you it is awesome! I built my first mobile site in a day (Could probably be done in an hour or two) I had zero web building experience. And the client loved it. He also answers questions very quickly.Well worth the money. He was running a discount for members. I would check it out. Not affiliated...just a happy customer.

If you work with CMS, there is a mobile plugin for Drupal 6. You can see more at: drupal.org/project/mobileplugin - So you will have the same web-site for both normal and mobile version.

What you can add to your client's current hosting site is a WordPress template that is specifically made for mobile display. Once installed, the template gives you a line of code you can place in your customer's homepage so whenever someone lands on their site via mobile device, the mobile template is automatically called up, or "deferred to" and the visitor sees the custom mobile site. This is a free WordPress template. What you would do is install WordPress in a separate directory from your customer's main site, like, customersite.com/mobile. Then you login to that WordPress site, upload the template, and add the content you want on the mobile site. Add the line of code to your customer's main site. No extra charges anywhere.
