Landing page

It really depends on how much detail you want. Do you want serious graphics and top of the line copy or just average. Like they always say, you get what you pay for. Whoever does it for you make sure you check out their portfolio first. Shop around to see what type of price quotes you get and pick the best one. I would check out odesk.com and elance.com. You would do it yourself if you want. They have free html editors and you can learn with video tutorials on youtube.

If you want a really simple website then i suggest you learn how to do it yourself.
$40 is a waste of money if it could be done by yourself in less than 10 minutes of learning.

It varies depending on what you need doing. Like @neda30 said, the more you want (functionality & design-wise), the more you'll end up paying.

For example, one splash page that I designed for a client of mine I charged ~$130. Why? The amount of stuff he wanted done (the design & revisions to get it exactly as he wanted) and the coding of the page.

Though the page has serious graphics on it, 40$ will is a costly price for one html landing page.

I think the average is $40.00 - 70.00 for a normal landing page though if you want to have something special then the price goes up. Though I might help you of if you are interested Let me know about your decision.

Anyone who charges you 40.00 for a landing page more than likely will not do a high quality job.

You also have to realize the location of the designer. There are design firms in lets say, India, that could do it for that price, but I haven't seen to much quality at least design wise come from india for that price, although it's possible maybe?

To be real honest, landing pages, squeeze pages, splash pages are all basically the same, and if you want an opt in form, and high quality graphics, you should expect to pay at least $100.00 to $200.00 for it, with a few revisions made available to you.

I personally would charge between $125.00 and $175.00 depending on the amount of work, and graphics needed. Copywriting, (which most designers do not do) would not be included, because I am a designer not a copywriter, and most designers are just designers from my experience. Some have html and css coding experience, and some even have php coding experience.

Again, as the other guy said you get what you pay for usually...

If you make a landing page, and you are going to invest time and money to get public to visit it, it makes mean to optimize that page to accomplish just one of the things above. Perhaps two, but no more.

For the amount of cash you quoted there are several very good WP themes that will make the page setup a breeze. In the end it makes sense to set it yourself unless you won't wanna change or modify it for it's life span.
Learning to set one up wither way - HTML or WP it's the way to go - you could outsource it anytime but if you learn to do it once you can do it again. As others pointed at $40 it's more likely the page will more likely be a copy or a bad one.
