For WIndows VPS I use BurstNet ($10/mo)

    Linux VPS, Servint (cpanel) $49

    Cpanel Hosts:
    - Hostgator (good support but servers can be congested)
    - Hostmonster ( I love their Simple Script installer, alternative to Fantastico)

    Dreamhost
    - They have one-click install (similar to Fantastico) but I don't like the way it auto-updates Wordpress to the latest version
    - They allow SSH and other cool programming stuff

    1and1
    - Cheap hosting plans and they have a Graphic Archive (free stock images and photos) but I don't like that they limit the number of files you can have on your hosting (something like 250,000)

    SEO Hosting:
Indianets - 5 Class C IPs for only $10 (you get a cpanel account for each domain on different class C IPs) good for hosting your PR sites.

    GoDaddy Hosting
    - I found that they don't mind hosting high traffic sites on a shared hosting plan; they did not kick out a high traffic site that crashed a Hostgator shared server
    - Their Hosting Connection has one-click installs but I find adding domains and creating databases cumbersome (you have to wait for setup to finish, unlike Cpanel which does this instantly)

Rackspace Cloud is also good for quickly deploying dedicated servers.

Most people on these forums recommend the big shared hosting companies. These hosts tend to not be the best quality and the "unlimited" hosting that they offer doesn't exist. All these hosts will suspend your account if you use too much of the server.

I would recommend MediaLayer.com if your willing to pay a lot because you'll get incredible quality hosting. If your looking for something cheap HawkHost.com is great.

To learn more about hosting and see more recommendations take a look at my sig as well as WebHostingTalk.com

Agree, hostgator is the best! We had a business plan for years and always worked fine! Now we have a VPS with them and it's very fast. Never had serious troubles with them, and their support is professional, both with chat and ticket people.

I can tell you instead which is the worst hosting company ever: namedeal.com.
Keep away from this company, I had few sites there and now I'm experiencing something I never seen before. The server where they host my sites is down since 4 DAYS (yes, not hours, days!!!), and the chat people are telling me lies since the beginning (wait 1 hour, 5 hours, 12 hours and so on).

Luck I have just minor sites there, not a real business.

Hostgator all the way!! You can't beat their customer support. And, their servers are lightning fast! I would never ever use Godaddy for hosting. I have twice and was disappointed both times. I've also used IXwebhosting and MediaTemple before. But, Hostgator has been rock solid for me. They offer basically everything you need from baby plans to reseller hosting. They also offer dedicated solutions. I promise, I don't work for them, LOL!

I have used several including hostgator. Most recently I use Ipage. Lots of nice features. Simplescripts for WP installs. They give some ad credits and site security scan plus a badge for customer confidence too. I payed $35.00 for a year of service so pricing is good. I haven't had any trouble at all and good support. Many out there. Do some research and pick whats best.

Ok. so an update to this post. Since posting I have experienced most of a day of downtime with Ipage. Not to mention I'm beginning use of WP$Box plugin and Ipage doesn't support cron jobs (good to know if you plan to use this plugin). So....in light of all that I have already started up my old Hostgator account and I'm in the process of transferring my main site over there. Glad I hit these problems early while it's a little easier to transition. Overall Ipage is ok for certain types of sites, but I will no longer recommend for serious internet marketing.

I use HostGator and have never had any problems - you can host 'unlimited' sites in your space, easy to set-up. Search for HostGator voucher codes and you'll find some great deals. I also use WordPress to run my simple sites and blogs as it's so easy to set-up and there's a host of great themes and plug-ins - plus it integrates nicely with Aweber for squeeze pages etc!

maybe the person talking about wordpress was referring to a wordpress.com hosted site. I would be very careful though. All of my wordpress.com sites were banned for not following their terms. I didnt do anything scummy on there, just linked back to my other sites a lot.

I think you can find many and many hosting companies out there, but the most important things are: quality of the support and choosing a company with long experience.

Rush companies that are running hosting business for 1-2 years then disappearing is one of the worst thing you can experience: imagine if you have 30-50 domains and your company is flying away without any notice.

So IMHO you should look for established companies, getting the change to run their 30 days trial(s) and choosing which ones best suit your needs.

      Hope this helps.

Bluehost and Hostgator are both good. Hostgator support is good. Haven't had to use Bluehost support yet.

1and1 are to be avoided like the plague. Support is laughably inept - I had to explain to one "technician" what a blog was. Cancellation is a nightmare and they will continue issuing bills for months on end even after their own staff have confirmed that they owe you money!

I spent a TON of time looking into hosting. Which looking back on it was ridiculous. I realized I was spending hours to figure out if I was saving a dollar or so a month. It came down between hostgator and bluhost. I found a promo code for .1 cent hosting for the first month with hostgator so I went with them. I played around for 2-3 weeks then upgraded to a package that allowed multiple domains. I had some technical questions/problems with stuff and the hostgator service was really good. I'm not sure who they have at tech support but they really seemed like native speakers. I recommend them. You really have to investigate hosting packages. They are never as cheap as they advertise. You want to find the cheapest/best package that supports multiple domains. Best of luck.

MediaTemple 2gb DV running 15 WordPress sites, 2 Magento sites an 4 IP's.

This setup is about to go, because at the moment I'm considering switching to the slightly cheaper VE server since I've learned more about managing my server myself. And I want to break my servers into three groups. Last time I had a problem it took all my clients and everything in one sitting. Not cool.

Otherwise very happy with MediaTemple for dedicated VPS.

If your traffic is low, shared hosting like Host Gator, or aSmallOrange is great.

But I honestly would never go back to shared hosting. I charge my clients enough to cover the cost of the server and pay out for the whole year.

I have hosted with HostGator for several years. I love them! Never had a problem easy access and fast. I signed on with GoDaddy for the first time and have a hard time looking for what I need. GoDaddy is really not too user friendly in my opinion. Anyone know anything about d9hosting? Have a few people tell me to use them.
