The idea was simple, I needed to create a website where I can post articles and run a blog. I outsourced the design to India because the price was fair and I didn't have the time to create an entire site from scratch. I've already started to experience serious usability issues and it's a brand-new site.

Since this is my first build I'm not entirely sure what my next step is to start making money. I know that my website needs some finishing touches to make it great. So, if you have lots of Wordpress experience or if you'd just like to share your feedback, please visit 48mohawk.com

Can you explain more about what your experiencing as far as usability and what you dont like? I bet they delivered exactly what you asked if you were not specific enough. When dealing overseas especially India I try to create a HUGE .doc with every detail know to man and make it as easy not to mess up as possible. Regarding your site...

I see some odd things like contact me should be a form and spruced up a bit and some 404s but hopefully they are still working on the site.

That design and layout in essence is about as wordpress simple and 'themey' as can be. The layout is typical and looks like 9 out of 10 WP blogs. I have outsourced near 100 projects to india and they are outstanding coders but UI and UX is not their strong suite as I have seen many times over but then again I was paying them to code the site and we in housed some design changes and worked on layout and usability afterwards. In your case I imagine this most likely cost under 50$? If thats the case I dont think its bad at all as the nav and layout is standard as can be and your end users will find what they need in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, you're absolutely right, I was not specific enough when dealing with them. I will try your technique on my next project. I've added a very simple contact form for now, but the bigger concern is definitely those 404 errors. Unfortunately, the team overseas is not working on the site anymore, so I have decided to finish the rest in-house. Any idea as to why the links to the articles aren't working

Not quite sure to be honest, first thing I would check would be in WP Admin>settings and fiddle with the permalink structure. Try using the custom command and you can try custom structure /%category%/%postname%/ as that might call the category which appears to work and maybe the post. If that doesnt work verify the post in the post area and maybe rename? Even though the offshore team has bailed dont worry to much, what you have is not terrible at all and its in WP so anyone can fix it on the cheap and get you up and running in no time. Another thing you could is checkout wordpress themes on templatemonster and themeforest.net to see if you like a premade theme as some are just fantastic looking and work wonderfully. Maybe checkout fiverr.com and look for a US WP expert to fix you up in no time. Good luck!

The biggest thing I noticed is theres way too much purple. So much You should always use at least one other color to accent the main color and balance things out. A little bit of yellow goes great with purple, such as links or header colors. Do a google search for "website color schemes" and you will find plenty of tools to help you pick out some nice colors to balance out the site.

Also your menu has dark links on a dark background. It's always a good idea to have a high contrast between the menu links and their background as they are a focal point of the website. I would also change some colors on your websites logo to make it stand out instead of blending into the background.

The thing to realize with web design is, you get what you pay for. It's worth putting up a little money initially to save money in the long run. As a web designer I've had to redesign many websites that where outsourced, and the programming and graphic design is usually about 5 years behind the times. Many people don't realize that a poorly design/coded website can actually hurt you more than help.
