SEO problems in WP...Help?!

Hi all,
Hopefully I have this thread in the right place.

I've recently had problems with my new theme and my All In One SEO plugin. They won't behave and work together!

My theme is Clear Line and it has a built in SEO for the site. It allows you to enter the site's title tag, keywords and description. The All In One SEO plugin however, has that PLUS allows you to enter title tags, keyword tags and description tags for every post.

So, still using keywords, I set my theme to "third party", which deactivates its SEO function and allows the plugin to function instead. Well, that's how it's supposed to work. But NOOOOOOoooo.

My site's title and post title no longer appear in the top browser bar...?! So, does that mean that my plugin is not functioning? I could easily deactivate my plugin and turn the theme's SEO function on, but it does not do as much as the plugin. It doesn't allow for keyword and tag input on individual posts.

So, my questions are, even though my site title and post titles don't appear in the top browser bar, does that mean that the plugin is not functioning? And is there a way to check?

The funny thing is when I'm in admin mode, my titles appear in the top browser bar; out of admin mode, no titles.

Go to the site on IE browser and you get the url splattered across the top browser bar...something's going on, but what...

your help and any technical wisdom is greatly appreciated!
Louise

    Thanks hawaiiwebdesigner,

I think you may have hit it right on the nail. But, I'd prefer not to use the theme's SEO since it doesn't let you enter tags for individual posts.

And changing the theme is out of the question.

Have you definitely set all the options on the main All-In-One settings page?

      Hi Karen,
Yes the options for AIO plugin are set correctly. It's actually the theme that's buggy. I tried the 20-10 theme and everything was great. Go back to my theme and title is gone again.

Supposedly, they are coming out with a new version that has the plugin feature corrected. So, waiting....

      Thanks for trying

I really don't understand the complaint about a theme not letting you adding TAGS to a post. You add tags while you write/edit your post - not in the plugin's interface.

      Istvan,
I can add the regular WP tags when I edit or write a new post. However, the All In One SEO plugin is supposed to boost the SEO benefits. You get extra fields that display in the post editor screen where you can add the post's title, description, and tags. It's extra optimization.

I like that I can do a keyword related title for the title tag and use a similar but more reader-friendly title on the blog.

The theme also has an SEO feature but not as good as the plugin. You can deselect the theme's feature and select a 3rd party plugin, but for some reason it interferes with the title tag.

    DesignSail,
The plugin may partially work, but the title tag I give my site and posts using the plugin does not display in the browser bar. If I Google a post's url, the result shows my meta description entered using the plugin. So, that part at least is working, but it shows my post's title in the result, not the meta one I entered in the plugin title field. (I use a reader-friendlier title for my posts than I do for my meta title, which is more keyword friendly.)

I'll wait a few more days and see if the new theme version is coming out. Otherwise, I'll send you a PM. Possibly, see if this is fixable.

    Thanks for the offer

I am still saying it's keywords, not tags

(OK, you can call keywords "meta tags"...)

But tags in normal WP context are those words/phrases you add as folksonomy (as opposed to the structural taxonomy) on the right side when writing a post.

Sorry Istvan, that explanation is way over my head...and when it comes to the technical details, my head starts to hurt!

So, I see I'm explaining it wrong. This is the end result I'm looking for: I want the plugin to work fully whether it adds tags or keyword... I want the plugin to do its job and it should with the theme.

When I first started this thread, I thought maybe someone who had come across something similar would know how to approach it, send me on my way to resolving it.

And I've since discovered on my own that the fault lies with the theme and that they are addressing it and releasing a newer version soon.

I'm not surprised that the theme interferes with the plugin. I have that kind of stuff happen all of the time! I'm sure they don't just happen to me...do they???

Now I'm just waiting for the new version of the theme to come out and hopefully that will resolved that issue once and for all. (fingers crossed).

unless you have a better suggestion...
    Thanks for your feedback

      Everything now works.

The theme (Clear Line) has been updated and now I can use my SEO All in One plugin without any problems.
