Embeding a .mov file, I guess it is too big?

So I found this really cool moving graphic on istockphoto which can be seen here I download a comp of it which was a flv file and easily embedded it into my website, I decided I like it so I bought the actual file, which after it downloaded I realized it was almost 70MB and a .mov file.

When I try to embed it now it takes about 10 minutes to load before it even plays, and requires quicktime to be approved (in chrome at least) before it to plays. I am just using the object embed code.

So what do I do to make this work? Is there a move effective way to stream this video file so the quality is still good but does not load the entire file before playing? or a way that does not require the viewer to approve quicktime to run? Any advice would be great!

You could always upload it to a third party video streamer, like Vimeo or Viddler. Then you could embed it on your site. If you don't want to use their players, then I guess you would have to use a paid service for hosting it. Or, you could re-encode it as an flv and embed it yourself. There are lots of video converters out there for free.

If I converted it to flv format would that take care of the load time issue do you think?

Yes, I think it would. My understanding is that the flv format is optimized for streaming. You could also reduce the quality a little, which will reduce the filesize. You can often reduce the filesize quite a bit without visibly reducing the quality. Also, you will always have the original, so you can play around with the settings when you convert until you get one that works.

Okay thanks for the advice. I know very little about video editing, is there an easy was to reduce the video size that you know of? A specific program? I will look around on Google too but just wondering if you had any recommendation.

I have used AVS Video Converter before, it's very easy. I haven't used it to do mov -> flv but it is listed as a supported format, so it should be good.

.mov's are terrible for embedding. Stick with flvs or mp4a
