How do I go about moving my web site?

My site was hacked last week and I cannot get any tech support so I need to move it to a new host. I have an account at godaddy which allows me to host another site there so I'll move it there.

I have all the files on my computer hard drive and I use Dreamweaver so physically I can easily upload my non-hacked files to a new host.

However, since I am not a seasoned web master I have the following questions:

1) If I move my site - same urls, same exact pages - to a new host, will my ranking at google and other SE's be affected? I assume not, but just want to be sure. One person already told me "not" but this is so important I want more opinions.

2) What steps do I have to take to move my site to a new host? Is it just a matter of uploading it and that's that, or are there forms to fill out, changes to institute etc... I assume I would delete my account at the current host... and upload it to the new host... but what else do I have to do?

I'd really appreciate any feedback anyone can offer on this because this is the first time I've had to move a site to a new host.

By the way, the reason I am moving it is because my current host (would love to give their name here but not sure if that's allowed) promises 24/7 tech support but they have not responded to my several attempts to contact them in 120 hours. I know all cheap hosts probably have lousy tech support but this is ridiculous! Also because I have no way of knowing if the hacker got in through my (formerly weak) password or if they got in through the Host themselves, in which case I have no way of protecting my site, and also there are lots of files the Host has within my site that I did not put there so I have no way of knowing what's good and what's bad. Better to start over with a new host I think.

Is it an HTML site or some kind of CMS.

Since you used the word Dreamweaver, I assume it is HTML. You just need to upload the files to the FTP or File Manager, make sure index.html file is in the root folder.

You'll also need to alter the nameservers for the domain to point to the new host. You get what you pay for with hosting.

They're unlikely to be properly resourced to provide proper support (despite their claims that they do) if they're very cheap.

    1) If I move my site - same urls, same exact pages - to a new host, will my ranking at google and other SE's be affected?

-- As all URLs and content remains intact, ranking will remain unaffected.

    2) What steps do I have to take to move my site to a new host?

-- You can go through this tutorial which I have written on my blog.

Thanks for the replies! Been working long hours this week so just got back here to read and respond.

Thanks for the link to the blog, I'm sure that will be helpful.
Thanks for the reminder re nameservers. That's the one I was trying to remember...
And thanks for reassuring me that moving my site with the same urls will not affect my google ranking.
