Domains on one Web Page

 Greetings All,
Was just wondering about how to set up a WordPress page as my main site. What I thought of doing is having many different topics on the page, i.e. Family health and diet plans, a stamp collecting tutorial for kids, some financial info links for my affiliate sales, etc. Can I have this under one domain name or does each link have its own name and then I need to register each and pay for each one.
Any help appreciated before I pay for my hosting and domain name requirements. Thank you in advance to all who help with this.

    1. It's built-in in WP. Settings > Reading - if your really, really are talking about a Page in WordPress (as opposed to a post!)

    2. And who will visit your site? I want to see your financial info but I hate to read diet plans... so I may avoid the whole site

    2a. Maybe subdomains?
    health.example.com
    stamps.example.com
    viagra.example.com

Just out of curiosity: why would you want to mix such unrelated topics in your blog/site?

I think most experienced marketers here would tell you to have a different domain for each niche. The domain name can then be targeted to that niche alone.

You can purchase one hosting account (at HostGator, for instance) that will handle all your separate domains. If you buy them right, a domain for one year can be had for about $8.

If you try to put all your niche products on one domain, it will be hard to really target or drill down on the purpose and focus of your site.

      Istvan and Steve B.
Thank you both for your input. This IM is fairly new to be and I just want to be sure I'm going in the right direction. I thought by being creative and trying to put together a site that had a little something for all to link up with. As you have both suggested, obviously it is not a good idea. So I'll just start with one niche on one page and go from there. Again, your expertise is appreciated.

There are a number of people that cover a wide variety of topics in their blogs. It is possible to have a general blog- ie under your own name, or about issues for baby boomers etc and then have different posts about life experiences all within the same domain. I find if the person is interesting, I like to read what they say in many areas of life.

      Greetings Yogini;
Thanks for your point of view. That is what I had in mind as well as keeping within the budget as I am on my first campaign.

One thing to consider is that each domain is an asset that can be sold. You may want to have this ability in the future with each topic/niche becoming something you can sell for some cash if you need, without giving up your entire empire.

    Hey Donald.

Absolutely what you want is possible. Thats the beauty of Wordpress sites. You can buy your domain and host it on say hostgator. Then you just go into go daddy and forward your nameservers to the hosting company that you choose. ( i use hostgator) then go into host gator and create a new add on domain or set it up as your main domain. Then just use the fantastico platform to setup your wordpress site. This is very easy. I would be happy to walk you through the steps. PM me.

    Good luck!

  • In my opinion you MUST make different domains. From my point of view, I wouldn't stay on web site where articles are about different topics like stamp collecting and health.

Well, it could be "how to stay healthy by collecting stamps and avoiding sports and related injuries"

Someone mentioned sub- domains but you can also have subfolders with a completely separate wordpress install ( it will function as a separate website).

Say your site is health.com you can install wordpress into a folder named "weight-loss", this folder will be inside the "health.com" root directory. So the URL of this wordpress install will be Weight Loss and Diet - Health.com

You can create links inside your main site to all your other sites. All of this can be done with one domain. If you really had to because of shortage of funds.

PM me if you have any questions.

    Hope that helps.

      I am afraid that's incorrect.
Subdomains are seen by SE as separate sites but subfolders are not!

        Hi,

You can do multiple niche in one domain - but you have to do SEO on each niche. More experienced marketers had used this technique.

But you must have a unique content for each topic, stay away from duplicate content or else SE will sandbox your webpages. You need to dig in more on SEO if multi niche is what you want.
