Hey, really nice design work by you. Just one advice from my side, the text above the flag is not taking attention too much. Rest is nice.

Even though you can see the horizontal flow and width of the page, the white/black area in the center is too much and can be rather distorting.

Perhaps you can fill up the width or use different shades of greys to show differences.

I personally like bright colours instead of just black. Always find it easier on the eye.

its looks alright, but nothing special.

Anyways what i suggest, don't use black backgrounds, keep it simple: white (it's also a lot easier for the eye to read)

other than that there is not much to say yet.

There was meant to be 2 views one with white bg and one with black background.

Of course using black bg with white text is an obvious no no, but using black as a page body bg has no real effect but contrast on the design and text.

    Hi Steve,

I for one like it a lot. Looks very professional. I like how all the colors blend together. Logo is also very neat. God Bless America!

      Steve,

      What does the client think?

Straight HTML? (My mind is struggling with the choice of Wordpress or HTML.)

They are pretty raw and new, meaning they have no clue about websites or design in general. They said they like it, they are just wanting something simple, and only 3 pages to start out.

I thought about wordpress, and maybe I will offer a conversion of the site later into wordpress. But at this time, for the money they are spending, this seemed to be the best way to go. Later they talked about me adding a few pages to the site.

From my talks with them, they don't really want to mess with it............just put it up and leave it. No idea about seo or even talking about seo, so basically in general it's just a virtual calling card to them.

Plus, since I am a designer, I like the freedom of designing with css and xhtml, versus using a wordpress theme and customizing it.

I have not got to the point of being able to actually code a wordpress theme from scratch, but plan on doing that at some point, it's just not the right time. Especially when I can have a psd coded into wordpress for a reasonable price.

From a marketing standpoint, the website needs a lot of improvement. Upon first glance, the website doesn't really appeal to me as a visitor. It doesn't seem very conversational - or get me excited about calling them about their services. Also, Express Elevator Co. looks like any other company in town. Why should I do business with them?

Here are some of my recommendations:
-Re-write the website's homepage to speak the language of their customers
-Include a strong, benefit-oriented headline that tells, in 10 words or less, why prospects should do business with them
-Include some testimonials of current customers on their website to build credibility
-Make their contact information prominent on the homepage - and give prospects a strong reason to call or e-mail them for more information
-It's not clear to me what you want me to do once I visit the website. Identify the GOAL of the website. Should customers:
    -Call for a free consultation?
    -Call for free estimate?
    -Etc.

      -Etc.

All the text was provided by the client and is what they wanted. Not my doing. At the rate I charged for this, I would not have written much of any copy at all, espcially since I am not a copy writer.

They wanted a simple 3 page website......... and were not willing to pay more than $350.00, I believe they got a pretty good deal for the price, according to US money standards for web design.

I may pass your suggestions on to them though, or at least jot them down and file them in their folder, just in case they are looking to update or change things around in the future....... thanks

    Starting to look good.

    Heres my notes:
    - make the van brighter, it looks dull
    - make the page background white, high contrast is a good thing sometimes, but not in this case
    - lighten or remove the american flag background, it makes the text hard to read and looks cheesy

    Other than that, good work.

    Hey Steve,

Looks nice to me. I like the colors, the USA, the American flag etc.

Very clean and eye appealing to me.

To add a little more. I think it is completely appropriate for the industry your client is in. If you own an elevator you want a reliable trustworthy company.

You are most likely not concerned about glitz and vidoes, hype etc. It is the same for a plumber, roofer etc.

Now on the other hand if this was a website for a band of course the OP would do different things and make it more up to day, hip etc.

To me it is completely appropriate for the industry his client is in. Good luck to you Steve and perhaps you could use this client to help you find more. Offer a bird dog fee or some other incentive.
