Im working with a public library to redesign their website and implement standards for staff member submissions. The visual design is not a problem and will come after all of the planning. My question is, does anyone have advice on the planning process, information architecture, or how to make this go smoothly with mind blowing results in the end?

Creating a todo list is always a great way to make things perfect

    Cheers!

    simple...

create an easy to use website of the public library, also make some categories for the books. if you could make a "live" borrowing system, that might be best.

Thanks. It's actually 4 separate library branches, 50 employees, all of which will be posting content on the site. I really just need to figure out the flow of info. I suppose each branch will have a there own blog category posting to one blog section on the site, with recent entries somewhere on the homepage. There is so much content, making it hard to create an easy to use UI for the user which is the goal, to be an easy to use resource. I suppose I should check out a lot of library sites and see what they have going on.

You will need to take that to the drawing board and do proper Information Architecture. It won't be very easy with the amount of information you need to organize though. Buy a big pack of sticky notes and have a big wall available then try arranging pieces in the most logical manner.

Thanks for the reply. Ive thought about doing just that. Currently, ive copied all of my notes into powerpoint to apply some organization. I believe there will be a lot of "Do we really need this?" "Is this really important?" Determining what a hierarchy for content is a must. Lots of work.
