Hello Warriors,

I need to create a blog in Wordpress where I need to have categories up to the depth of 3rd level i.e category -->sub category -->sub sub category.

Right now I am able to do it up to the sub category level but this is not what I actually need. I would like to ask if there is any way by which this can be implemented (category -->sub category -->sub sub category) OR is there any plug-in available? I highly appreciate your advice on this.

Thank You,
David.

It's built-in. If it doesn't work for you... most likely you are doing something wrong.

(btw, you build blogs WITH Wordpress not in...)

I know its built-in and I tried it, but I could go up the sub category level.. If i am not wrong then the process I am following is: I create a category and keeping this as the parent category I create another category. I'm I correct?

Is there any plug-in for this that will be more comfortable and easy to use?

There is never a plugin for something built-in. It wouldn't make sense... Plugins are adding additional features that don't exist in the core WP.

Creating sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-categories is an existing feature. It is a nonsense to look/ask for a "plugin" for something that is a user or installation issue.

You go into the Categories subpanel
    ...wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
and start Add new (category). Give it a name. (Slug is optional: WP will create it for you). In the dropdown for Parent - select an existing subcat [subcats are shown with an indent in the dropdown].
Click Add New Category at the bottom.

WHICH part is not working for you?

Now Istvan, that came over as somewhat sarcastic.

While I respect your renowned knowledge with Wordpress, and am often grateful for your help (including here), I feel that when someone asks for help, they don't want to be belittled because they didn't understand how to do something. That's why they asked in the first place, and enquiries should be encouraged.

      Cheers
      Alan

This is built in feature .. You can easily do it with your dashboard. no plugin require... may be your them does not support this functionality so use some premium themes to accomplish your task.

        Check out warrior forum.

BS... you don't need any special "premium" theme to create new categories.

What the WP engine does (in your admin) and what is displayed in the frontend through the design - are completely separated and have nothing to do with each other.

Then don't ever comment on my style... it doesn't help anybody.

You, guys, want pat on your shoulders and BS, idiotic advice (as you can see quite a few even in this thread) or sound advice based on experience, knowledge and facts? The latter comes with my style: it's a combo deal. :p

Here's how to do it: Click on "Categories" in the dashboard. Then type the name of your new category. Click "create category." Next, add another new category. From the drop-down list under "Parent," select the new category you just created and click "create category." Then, add your sub-sub category by repeating the process and selecting the sub-category from the parent drop-down list.

In your category list, the first sub will have one dash, the next sub level will have two dashes, etc. You don't need a plugin. It's best not to use plugins for things Wordpress will do without them.

If I am not wrong what you need to do is...

    1. Create category "Grand Parent" - Parent = None
    2. Create Category "Parent" - Parent of this is "Grand Parent"
    3. Create Category "Child" - Parent of this category is "Parent"

    Hope that helps
PS: grand parents, Parents and Child are just tags to define their relation, it could be like Vehicles -> cars/bus/truck -> BMW/VOLVO/MERC

After reading this - show me a theme that doesn't let you create categories in the backend...

Are you by any chance using a version of Wordpress that is so old that it came out before this feature was introduced?

I know it's a long shot, but I don't understand how you wouldn't be able to make sub-sub-categories in any recent version.
