I Need help picking a new host. I have been using Vodahost for years now and I recently had my account suspended because of CPU?

Here is the message I received on why?

------------------------------------------------------

The reason your site was suspend is because it violated clause
10a of our terms of service which can be found on the below url.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Your account spiked the server at 19% of CPU usage and triggered
a fail safe auto suspend. We have 500 accounts on each server. We
can not have one account using 19% of server CPU.

Your suspension has nothing to do with bandwidth or disk space usage.
Your suspension is purely based on cpu abuse.

What EXACTLY are you doing?
What scripts are you running?

--------------------------------------------------

I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I have about 10 or so sites using wordpress and none are real big traffic sites.

So Vodahost is making it seem like I am a hacker or something like I am purposely doing this. The bad part about Vodahost is that they have no number to call. I have to keep writing them.

I want to switch hosting? Which is the best and why?

The problem with wordpress is that some plugins or themes can really spike resource usage.

If you are going to switch, and are planning on staying with shared hosting, then my advice is to go with HostGator's reseller account. It's ~$20/mo but it will give you a WHM account that will let you set up a separate CPanel account for each of your sites. This is convenient because it lets you keep things separate so they don't interfere with each other, and then if you ever sell a site you can just hand over the CPanel login/password and give them a month or two to move the files themselves, rather than you having to separate that site's files and databases out of your existing sites. If they don't want to move the site, then you can charge them $20/mo to host it for them, which then covers your costs. You can also set up sites for friends for $5/mo (I charge my friends $60/year to host for htem, which is cheaper than they can get elsewhere and they'd be calling me for support no matter if they are paying me or not so why not get a little cash?) It only takes a few to cover your hosting costs.

I'd also recommend putting your site behind cloudflare, which can help reduce bandwidth usage and will also stop a lot of hacking or Denial of Service attempts, which can minimize the amount of CPU you are using. It also has the nice benefit of speeding your site up a TON, and the price is right (free for most services, cheap for better reporting.)

Other options could be to create an Amazon cloud server instance, but that takes a little more know-how to set up and to manage. If you want a more robust server, rackspace isn't the cheapest but I've had good luck with them and their network is phenomenal.

Other shared hosting solutions I've used but wouldn't necessarily recommend:

Midphase/AnHosting - okay, but not great, started having a lot of downtime until I finally moved off them

Media Temple - pretty good, but I'd rather have the reseller account with HostGator at the same price as a regular shared account from them

BlueHost - they were great...until they weren't. Technical support was horrible and involved my site going down 5-10 times per day because they had a bad router - it was set to autoreboot every hour, and that would fix the problem, but if it went down shortly after the hour my site could be down for 50 minutes. Despite knowing what the problem was they never fixed it before I gave up on waiting and moved my sites (I gave them too much time - over a month.)

DreamHost - pretty reliable, and I've heard good things about their VPS services but haven't used them, but my experience with shared hosting is the servers are a bit overloaded so it drags site speed way down. Never had a problem with uptime though, just slow websites.

1&1 Hosting - I refunded within 12 hours of signing up to try them. Their interface at the time didn't allow any way for me to import my database and their support wouldn't help so I figured I wouldn't waste my time with them. No opinions on their reliability.

GoDaddy - I wouldn't use them for hosting and recommend against them for registering your domains (you should never have your domain registered and hosted with the same company no matter what.) I think that the company has unethical business policies and their cluttered and intentionally confusing and often broken interface is a pain to use. Full disclosure: I currently have unresolved complaints through the better business bureau based on their randomly charging my credit card for services I never ordered over a year and a half after I'd cancelled all my accounts with them. (And I got away from them easy compared to my brother, who didn't listen to my advice not to use them and is now regretting it.)

2mHost - Can't offer an honest opinion at this point...they were okay when I used them a decade or more ago but support wasn't always available when I needed it so I moved on.

I've used a few other services, but none that really stood out one way or the other. Right now, I'm using Rackspace for a dedicated server for a company I don't own but do work for and am very happy with them, and I use HostGator for all my personal sites with their reseller account. I've also got an account with MediaTemple that I'm transitioning sites off of and is my current "backup" hosting in case I have any trouble with Host Gator, although I'll probably switch to a cheaper option as my backup and testing environments once my current prepaid contract runs out.

The easiest way to transfer all of your wordpress sites over to a new web host is to do a full cPanel backup in your old hosting account. Then give that full cPanel backup to your new web host and ask them to restore it for you on your new hosting account. Best of luck to you!

I recommend you to use 1&1 Hosting.
Base on my 2 years+ experience they are really quite a good hosting company. They do have 24/7 support and they have the best data center in the world.

Why the best data center? Well this year, starting from May 1st 2011, most of the 1&1 hosting plans are sold by the name of “Dual”. This expresses a special form of data security offered by 1&1: redundancy.

In detail, this means that all customer data (websites and online projects) are kept on two different servers that are being synchronized permanently. If one server was ever to fail due to technical reasons or if maintenance services are to be carried out, the service is
automatically switched to the other server, with no data losses or significant down times.

Well, that is just my review about this hosting company.

I've been using hostgator for about 5 years and never had a problem. Support is outstanding and pricing is good. I have shared hosting with them and VPS. They have never let me down.

I also use Arvixe, so far I think they are as good as hostgator in most aspects. Their shared hosting plans and VPS are about the same as hostgator.

They offer ASP which hostgator does not. Excellent 24/7 support.
