I had this bright idea to start a WP blog. I'm beginning to think as the old saying goes "this is too much sugar for a dime"

As it appears to me at this point...I can have a crappy plain looking blog or I can try to learn to tweak a screwy design, if I ever get past the learning curve or I can have a pretty nice looking functional website that makes sense and that I can easily administer.

I've built a few websites and the options of having "includes" and a functional "Navbar" for site navigation alone is starting to look like the better option for me.

I'd definitely go with a blog, if not to be your main site, to accompany it in some way. Search engines love blogs, it's a great way to drive traffic if you keep it updated with fresh unique content.

I'd definitely go with a blog too. Easy to set up, compared to doing a site from scratch, plenty of nice templates to tweak and you can make it not look like a blog pretty easily if you want to do that.

Wordpress blog is so much easier to try out designs than doing something yourself. Even when I am creating a site that's non-wordpress, I like to start with wordpress template. heh.

I dont agree with some people here, I like blogs yes, alot, but some purposes needs to have a complete standalone website, reflects the idea.

    So generally it depends

I wasn't like blogs and my feeling that it distract the visitor, but after i tried it in many niches... I liked it (I talk about wordpress):
    1- one-click templates
2- Search Engine Optimized (free visitors) & easy ranking
3- lots of plugins which facilitate your missions.
4- can be used efficiently if you are an affiliate with some templates and plugins.

it is all depends on what you need. I love blog, easy to setup, update contents one click with full SEO stuff. Google loves blog, easy to promote, etc...

but if it is not content site, web site will be better.

I believe that there is a purpose for both. It all depends on which would work better for what ever it is you are wanting to achieve. There is no wrong answer both a good for a lot of things.

Blog all the way! My WP blog has over 250K hits in a year and a half. Blogs are good if you know how to use keywords that Google and other search engines like to pick up.

For your blog to show up high in Google rankings you need to use very specific keywords. If your blog is about baseball don't just use the keyword baseball. Each post needs specific keywords that will differentiate you from other blogs of the same topic.

    I hope this helps.

Wordpress all the way. You can download tons of different themes that will instantly change the design. Plus with WP ... you can either use the posts or pages - to create a blog or a WP powered website.

  • I use a programme called artisteer,I am a complete newbie at Im.
Artisteer allows you to customise stuff such as headers, colour schemes etc for the price it's a must.
I can put together a site in 10-15 minutes and they are widget ready.
Of course I am still learning so the sites will laways be getting tweaked but it allows you to add your own touch.
Of course no doubt there will be some top class people here who could design theemes for you.

Blogs and Websites both have their own functionality of working....
Definitely blogs are easy to maintain but there are some benefits of websites that you can't find in Blogs.....
In My Perception Independent pages and flash is the main benefit of Websites....

I think that blog and website are going to mean completely different things soon. Because the use of any blog or any website is different. If you want to make some place where you will be able to talk about everything any blog system will be perfect. If you want to make something where you will present anything or you will be writing about anything not only your thoughts website will be perfect I think.
