Hey Warriors!

Check this out. Many of you probably already know this simple trick but for those that do not, I figured this little bit of info can help save you tons of slicing headaches.

I hate slicing, truth be told, so this is what I do instead in order to get that nice "pixel perfect" look.

First thing you want to do is hide all layers EXCEPT the one you would like to "single out".

You do this by placing your mouse over the "eye" icon of your layer and pressing "option" + click. (mac) "alt" + click (win)

Once the layer is by itself on your canvas, click:

"command" + A (mac) or "ctrl" + A (win) to select all.

Than you'll click:

"shift + command + C" (mac) or "shift + ctrl + C" (win) to copy the selected layer.

Final phase:

Go to file and click "new". The dimensions of your layer will automatically be set up.

After seeing your new canvas, click "command + v" (mac) or "ctrl + v" (win) to paste the layer.

That's all!

I do this for each layer I want to code and it saves me tons of time. When I started using this trick, I didn't see a time difference. It wasn't until I used it each and every time that it became like second nature.

Hope this helps!

Lina

This is not the way you are supposed to do slices in PS. And it sounds like an awful lot of unnecessary work.

Anyways, if you are serious about pixel perfect slices, checkout Adobe Fireworks. Its the best tool for web designers, who need to create html templates from .png or .psd files. Photoshop is a tool for graphic designers and not for web design. Fireworks is the tool to use as web designer. I assure you, that once you see how easy it is to slice with Fireworks, you will never go back to Photoshop

There's so many ways to design your website whether you do it in Fireworks or Photoshop, doesn't matter either way, it's whatever you feel comfortable with.

It seems like it is the same amount of work to me either way that I do it. It is never going to be a fun part of the project, but still a necessary one none the less.
