Elegant Themes Website Problem

Hi

I've built a website for a customer using an Elegant Themes template, the problem I've got is that when my customer looks at his new website on his PC, it takes around 7 - 10 seconds before he can start to scroll down the page. If he does start to scroll down the page before the 7 - 10 seconds is up, when page does start to move its playing catch up to the scrolling that he's just done.

On my PC its OK and I've checked it on my laptop its OK.

I've asked on the Elegant Themes support forum, they've suggested a couple of things to try, but its still happening.

He's had his PC checked for any viruses or malware, it also happens whether he uses Firefox or IE8.

Just wondering if anyone else has got any ideas to try.

Alan

Any chance to get a link? If you have any flash elements, then that may be an issue. Check the flash player version you have on your computers.

If you have many scripts loading up with the website, it can slow it down at the beginning. Maybe some plugin incompatibility?

Is the website image static or is it scrolling with the page. Some browsers, with IE in particular can be laggy with such backgrounds.

Finally, Elegant Theme allows you to see a demo of the particular theme you purchased. Have you tried looking at this demo on the computer where your version is lagging?

    Hope it helps, good luck!

Every thing worked brilliantly with me. I think Raxe has given all the possible reasons for this trouble to crop up. I think there are far too many plug-ins that are capable of creating problems in ET and eliminating the "culprit plug-in" could sometimes be daunting. Has the problem been resolved?

BTW, Its truly very well designed. Did it take a lot of Photoshop skills to bring about this design?

          Hi alan (or anyone else)
i'm considering buying elegant themes, can i ask your opinion of them? They look great. Are they easy to work with and are the features and options really good? Have you had any difficulties? (apart from what you've mentioned in this thread)

          cheers

            Hi Podman,

I have a developer license for Elegant Themes. My opinion is that they are excellent and for the price you can't go wrong. In addition to beautiful themes, they also have build in shortcodes which allow you to achieve complex layouts in your content quite easily.

They also have a support forum which is relatively active but I have not ever had reason to post any problems there.

Site loaded fine for me . I use elegant themes also. Most of the load problems are due to the slider i find , and i try not to have more than 3 slides for any one site. My problem has been that they dont always display well on IE , but fine on chrome and firefox.

Site looks good - well done

I just checked your site now and it loaded fast, the scroll is ok everything is ok. Try and talk to your client to open the site in another computer then if it works just fine then it would be her pc /mac issue.
However it is part of designer's job to ensure cross browser compatibility not cross computer compatibility.
Just my honest opinion as i think the site is clean, nice and simple to be going through something i consider irrelevant.

Have your client install firefox and chrome and test with that. Also have your client test from a different PC.

Most likely it's a problem with your clients browsers. He's probably using internet explorer (with too many bars and addons) or is just on a slow PC.

Taking a look at the theme, it uses CSS3 in a couple of places, i.e curved corners, text shadows etc.

CSS3 is awesome, but some older browsers don't handle scrolling very well when it's present.

If he's using an older browser or IE, that could be the reason. If so, it's just one of the things that comes along with using CSS3. It's a light, easy way to create great effects, but not all browsers are up to speed yet.
