Hi folks, I've got a quick question for you. I've learned joomla and am now interested in learning a bit about wordpress.

I assume that if I load wordpress onto my own host's server, I can modify it however I want and install any number of extensions.

What customization options do I have if I host the site on wordpress.com and use a private domain name? Can I still install extensions? Can I edit css? Can I edit the underlying files if I want?

i would avoid hosting it from wordpress.com and just host it from your own server so you can have full access , not sure if it makes a big difference but i would
    thanks

It does... go with your own domain+hosting.

You'll want to have your own domain+hosting, for sure. There are plenty of affordable hosting services too!

    Hey sonnyd,

I'm a huge WordPress nerd and you will love it. I recommend use your own hosting and download WordPress from Wordpress.org or install through cPanel (however you prefer)

WordPress has an amazing selection of free plugins WordPress › WordPress Plugins and there are people creating premium plugins all the time.

From within WordPress you can edit HTML, PHP and CSS. You can also edit plugin code from within WordPress.

So it is highly customizable. My background is in web development and when I found WordPress a few years ago I've never wanted anything else for content management.

    Hope that helps.
