Wordpress is too damn confusing.

I've got pages, as you can see on the menu. I've created a post that I would like to go on the 'News' page, however it just wants to post itself into the 'Video Games' category.

I know, I'm dumb but I really don't have a clue what I'm doing.

Advice on how to get my post on the News Page instead of a category?

Also, I need help with the permalinks for the pages.

It looks like you set up your news page to be your leave a comment section, so unless I'm mistaken, not sure how a post is going to go there.

Ok, on further inspection, every page is just leave a comment, this is a very strange format, is that what you really want to go for?

It's not the format I want to go for, but I'm struggling to work everything out in Wordpress.

If you need help with WP, go to their support forums, it may take a while before you get a response, but they're usually very helpful, at least in my experience.

You would have a single page named News that you would have to re-edit each time you wanted to make an addition.

Pages are more for fixed static information, some sites only have pages for Contact and Privacy statements. With all other content appended as new posts.

Pages and posts have separate editor areas.

Some rename the Recent Posts widget to something more news sounding, like "Latest Information"

BTW you can make the home page a static page to make the site look less blog like, the menu widgets then become more important for accessing the posts. This option is set in Reading settings, it can be a bit confusing at first.

I assume you're not just clicking on Add a Post but going to your dashboard and opening the News page to edit first? If so, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what to tell you!

Is news a category or a page?

If it's a page, you need to start by going to settings/reading and setting two things.

A page that will be your homepage and then a "page" (news) that will be your postspage. This is where your blog posts will go.

I'd offer to help you out on skype, but it's the middle of the night here and I just woke up for a while!

Edit: just noticed you're in teh UK too

site is coming along nice so far. First thing you want to change is those permalinks. You can do this by going to the "permalinks" option under settings.

I normally select the custom option and just type in "/%postname%/" (without the quotes)

The theme is pretty cool and works with the site.

Once you get wordpress going it becomes really easy.

It looks to me like you want to have certain posts in certain categories be used in the News section and presumably has a slider function. If that is the case, there should be an option in the Dashboard under Appearance called Theme Options or something similar. Go through that section and there should somewhere you can customize the slider. All you need to do is pick the category to pull your News from. Then all you need to do is make sure when you write a post add it to the same category you chose in the slider options.

If you need any further help I can have a look for you. Just PM me.
