what kind of computing system do you build your websites on. Getting ready to make a computer purchase (the one I have currently is about 5 yrs. old, and Vista loaded. also having trouble with IE9 and security communicating with Vista.) With web design, what are some of the important considerations you think about, in regards to your computer?

What will be the computer used for? For your personal PC so you can authoring webpages? or for hosting our websites on it?

If you use it to host your websites, try to put more RAMs on it, use SAS harddisks instead of SATA harddisks, try to get a RAID controller if you have money.
But don't buy a fancy video card.

If you use it as your personal PC, make sure you get a good video card, good CPU speed and good amount of RAMs.

The type of computer depends on what type of software you are running. If you are running Adobe Creative Suite and using Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc, you will need better hardware. Also, are you going to edit video?

If you are going to be running your own business than I say get a higher end computer since it can be a tax write off (at least in the US)

So get an i7 processor and 8GB ram and 1TB hard drive. That's a good starting point.
