local trade directory advice

Hi,
I am designing a site for local listing of tradesmen.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas regarding layout,opt in etc for such a site.

I'm not looking for anything fancy,preferrably something I can do wordpress.

If anyone has a link to some sites for ideas that'd be great.

I've looked around but haven't seen anything that really catches my attention.

    I've built a couple of business directory sites for tradesmen, and I would suggest you go with something that is established and works well..

    One of the best business directory scriots that I have used (have used lots of them) is phpMyDirectory

    Its works well, is VERY STABLE and allows you to collect signups online as well as offline..

    No its not mysite, but it does work very well..

    I would strong recommend that you DON'T go down the route of designing your own script (I did) and it ended up costing WAY, WAY more than I ever anticipated and it still doesn't run as I hope.. Becuase as you work with the directory you find more and more things that you never thoight about in the beginning..

    Give phpMyDirectory ago, and you won't be disappointed..

    There is not a lot out there. They are very generic. My personal opinion is to keep it as simple as you can.



    Have you thought about just having a very simple banner title and then just bullet listing the catagories. The catagories would then go to another page with the details.
