Hi all,

I need some help on a Wordpress site for a client.. He wanted to make viewers register (using a customized form, including username and password field), and then login before being able to view the website.

I am not referring to WP Admin login etc.. this is purely to collect viewer info (via the form) and knowing who is visiting the site etc.

Can this be done via a plugin? Can this even be done at all?

Really need some help here.. thanks all!

Greg

What you should do, is forget his logic... instead of making the site do that, and making the project much more complex than it needed to be, here is what you should do.

Just create an easy squeeze page with an email form that they HAVE to fill out to gain access to and then they get redirected to the actual site, like http://yourdomain.com/site

A little bit of a pain, but I think that would be the best way to go about doing that. Otherwise, I'm not sure what is available as far as plugins go. I like to stay away from wordpress when possible.

      Thanks!

Well, I would love to apply your logic, but unfortunately, he is paying my livelihood so I aint got much of an option here..

Anyone else done something remotely similar?

There are a number of membership plugins available for WordPress. Google "wordpress membership plugin" to find them. Some are free, some are paid.

These plugins offer a way to block content from unregistered users. It seems like all you'd have to do is set your site's homepage as the membership sign up page and make sure the rest of the site is protected.
