Yes, my site is hosted at Arvixe. When I download it to my host, it won't mess up my site in the process will it? Also my site is asp.net, is it compatible?

You cannot host a Wordpress CMS blog directly under the same URL as another website you are already running. You will need to host it either in a separate directory, a sub-directory, or under a new URL.

Wordpress is not ASP It If your hosting is ASP then it most likely is running o WIndows servers running under IIS Wordpress is written in PHP and intended to run on Apache web server also it uses a MySQL backend, again better suited for Apache server. While it may be possible to setup and run Wordpress on your hosting it will not be a simple straight forward sort of thing to setup. You would have to get with your hosting companies tech support I'm guessing the answer is going to be "No"

At hostgator where I host my sites, you just go into your cpanel, click on wordpress, fill in the blanks with name of blog, and what page to put it on like www.domainname.com/(add name of your new blog here Ex. blog) and that's it, it is done and ready to start posting.

Maybe your hosting company has something similar. Check in their knowledge base or contact customer service.

    truonglychoi,

If you simply dump the contents of the wordpress archive in the your site's root directory, you *could* "mess up your site." This is particularly true if your doing so overwrites a file in your old site.

To expand on what Ronc wrote, I don't believe that wordpress requires Apache. I've seen it run just fine on IIS with PHP and MySQL before. However, I took a look at the specs and it looks like SEO-friendly permalinks require Apache's mod_rewrite module. You'll want full support for clean permalinks.

Bottom line: I think you may be entering into a storm of complexity, when it would be easier for you just to sign up with hostgator or bluehost for a basic, shared hosting account at a couple of bucks a month for your Wordpress blog on its own dedicated URL. You can add a link to that blog from your main site's navigation and the blog can be themed to look like an extension of your main site and even include a "home" button in the navigation that points to the main site. If you aren't going to convert the existing site to Wordpress, I'd consider just setting up a separate site for the blog functionality elsewhere and doing your best to unify things with navigation and styling.

  • Its wordpress.org if you want to download the platform. But simple Google search would do this.

    It's in wordpress.org.

I suggest you work on locally first before publishing it online.

You can use xampp for a local php server.

    Goodluck mate!

Most website hosting companies have one click installation for wordpress blogs such as fantastico... if your particular hosting company does not offer this facility you can download the installation files from wordpress.org and copy the file over FTP
