Question about .PSD to HTML conversion

What are the advantages & disadvantages about taking a Photoshop design and having it transfered to HTML? -Less ability to modify in the future? Less ability to optimize for SEO?

Versus simply coding a page in HTML.

    Are you comparing between PSD to HTML conversion VS HTML coding from scratch? If so, the only difference I see is that the former will be easier to do because the coder will already have a design to follow. Modifying in the future should be no problem if the HTML/CSS are properly coded. Similarly, there should also be no problem with SEO if the HTML coder follows best practices while coding, i.e. include heading tags H1, H2, and so on

    Advantages :

    Usually you'll have more design freedom and the opportunity to make an eye catching design.
    If done profesionally no problem with SEO.

    Disadvantages:

    In the real world after a design is coded into html/css just SOME areas/colors are changed, Redesigns can be done, but are a redundant and expensive pursuits.

    I think if you are working with professional designers, going from psd to html is the usual way.

    Designer delivers drafts in psd, you do all the reviews etc. still in the psd stage, and only when you're done it will be cut to html. Most "professional" designers don't even touch html/css stuff.

    I agree that drastic changes are harder to do later on - so try to get it done during the psd design stage, and only if you are 100% happy have it cut to html.

    I dont understand the question. Photoshop is only used if you have complex images and colouring. if you dont have that then dont use photoshop, just create one from scratch using css/html.

    Design flexibility is the biggest drawback of slicing a photoshop design to html. Also, if the image slices aren't properly optimized, they can become issues to.

    … or you can just create a Photoshop template and then convert it into a website without HTML skills, that is much more easier.

    There are many suitable tools for that, for example Sitegrinder, or if you need to create a WordPress theme, then you should certainly use Divine Elemente."
