Looking to build a site where I can advertise and sell items but also have members post their items for sale for others to buy. Would I be able to do this with WordPress or should I look elsewhere for this? The members would be able to register just like you have to register for this forum but then they would be able to post and sell their items for free with no commission to me. Thanks

edit: I found classipress and it seems like its exactly what I need. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes you can do this with wordpress. Its easy. Other opensources OS commerce can be used but they are bit difficult.

Actually all the CMS like Wordpress, Drupal, Magento & Joomla etc are good and have plenty of features. It depends upon you, what features do you want on your site and what will help you in future to enhance your site. Wordpress is easy and friendly to use. I have not used classipress yet so can't say about that.

Do not utilize wordpress, drupal, and definitely not magento. You need to try "opencart."

Sounds like you want to create a marketplace (users posting products), rather then just a straight up ecom site. Most standard carts won't support this.
