Assign goal to Analytics

I want to assign a conversion goal for my Google Analytics where I get the % of people signing up for my mail list of the total number of people visiting my site.

I've messed around with it a little bit but I can't get it to work. Does anybody know how to sort this out?

    Hi,

    Your goal can be the "Thank You" page after someone signs up. Any traffic to hit this page would trigger the goal and since they would only hit that page after signing up that would be the percentage of total signups/visitors. It won't be 100% exact as people could come back to that URL later if they copied the URL or bookmarked, but close enough to get a good idea for your analytical purposes.
