Hiring someone to for a custom thesis design

Hi everyone,

I am just starting to look into hiring someone for a customer thesis design for my site and I am looking for advice.

What are the pitfalls to hiring someone for this? How can I avoid them?

What is the best way to find someone that is really skilled enough to do this?

What level of information do I need for a quote request? How detailed should I be and should I turn over any of the creative license to the designer?

    When you are skeptical the best agreement to make is to have the person do the work first and give you a preview of it. When you are satisfied with what you see, you can pay for it. That is the tricky part though. If you meet the person on a forum and they have good reputation or Itrader you can continue in confidence. But the reality is that everyone wants a start. There isn't anyone with good Itrader who once didn't have any, and had to be trusted by someone. The same way you can get ripped of, you can also rip someone off. So at the end of the day both parties must have trust.
