Can someone tell me which non html site builder is the best? I'm talking about easy to operate, low cost, and can easily create a 1 page to 50 page site.

Hi Christie

I have been developing web sites for many years, so it gets easy for some of us to forget what a challenge it was to get the first sight up and running.

Before you pick a tool, I think it is best to decide what you want to do with it long term. I see you say 1 to 50 pages, but is this a one time thing or are you going to be staying in the IM field and need something you will be using for a long time.

Investing a bit of your hard earned cash in the right tools can go a long way.

For years (even that many developers hated it) I used Microsoft Front Page. I just stayed away from the built in "themes" it had. What I liked was the WYSIWYG editor and then being ablt to look at the HTML behind the scene and make tweaks to it.

If you plan on being around for a long time and will be making changes to your site, I would suggest that you DO learn the basics of HTML. HTML is not a difficult thing to learn and if you head on over to w3schools.com, they have an excellent reference AND online FREE tutorials.

Today, I use Adobe Dreamweaver. Most likely you don't want this as it has a huge tool selection. I also design CSS and PHP, so need something with the power.

I have been told that the Coffeecup HTML editor is not bad so you many want to look into a google search for it.

Also, I have a number of sites hosted at Lunarpages.com. They have a FREE web site builder you can use that comes with the hosting package.

I have not used it, but the reports are it also is pretty good.

Now, I have been hearing good things about the NVU editor and best of all for YOU, it is FREE.... visit NVU to check it out and give us your feedback.

Hi Christie,

I use Dreamweaver and CoffeeCup for various reasons. Coffeecup I feel is easier to pick up for beginners but I only really use it for one feature it has or at least I did untill I found out that Dreamweaver had a similar feature.

I've heard good things about Xsitepro especially as regards beginners using it. It's not that cheap at $197 but if you're planning on doing this for a while it is worth investing in the right tools it saves you so much time in the long run.

Of the three I've mentioned Dreamweaver is the most expensive and Coffeecup being the cheapest. There is a free trial for both Dreamweaver and Coffeecup so you can try them out and see which one you prefer.

Just to clarify. I have no desire to be a web developer. The reason I want a non html program is to save money in the long run on web developers and to create my own websites. I see this as a long time investment for me.

I've tried Kompozure. I would love to be able to use that, but even with the online tutorials, I've having difficulty getting my site published. Maybe I can just stick with that, I don't know.

I've also heard good things about Xsitepro and their tutorial looks fairly simple to use.

Are there any other options out there?

Many hosting companies have online website builders. I would recommend wordpress because you can install that in a minutes with their installer. Hostgator is who I use. There is also weebly.com and synthesite.com

As for Kompozure it's good but you need to use ftp. You can do a search on google for total commander, it's a really easy to use program.

So create the site then upload it via ftp. It's pretty easy.

I'm not looking to create a blog. I'm looking to create a static website. I've actually used weebly for my own website before, but find their sites to look a bit cheap.

Kompozure, is not as easy as it may seem. At least not for me. I was on the phone with Hostgator for over 1 hr trying to get the ftp to work and they weren't able to help me.

You can do static sites with wordpress How to Build a Wordpress Static Site? | MakingBigCash.com and I highly recommend it for SEO purposes. I have a 130 page static wp site that is very easy to update.

The best FTP tool to use is smart FTP Ive been using for 2 years
now & have had no issues although you have to buy it now

If you just want to develop sales pages, I have a tool that will create the entire site for you. You just start it up, fill in ALL the boxes (type), press the button at the end and it creates a site for you.

Great for mini sites that you just want to get going fast.

Can't remember the name of it off hand as I have not used it in a while (I am a web developer), but was impressed at the time when I tested it.

Seems to me it was one of those things I purchased for 9.99 a while back... I know I have resell rights, just need to dig into my library and see if I can find it.... If you are interested let me know and I'll start the search.

I still think learning a bit of HTML and using NVU(,com) is a good idea, but that is up to you.

I've been trying to publish a site built with Kompozer too and it hasn't worked.

I found a free tutoral on building a WP static site.

I'll probably try that next.

I also have komozer and nvu, evsoft first I like better then komozer. I have trouble with komozer for some reason. Im starting to learn frontpage more then before and I also have xsitepro which I love but it dont have quite as many tools as frontpage. My goal is to learn the different programs so I dont have to pay people lol

I would highly recommend xsitepro - I've used it since the first version was released and have built about 200 sites with it.

The training for it is easy to follow and learn. With my content and graphics ready to go I can build a 20-25 page minisite in 30 minutes or less and ftp is built into the software.

Also great for sales pages, etc.

OK, sorry it took me so very long to get back to you. I was out of town visiting family, then had to work on our eBay business with my wife after we got back. We have shipped over 40 products in the last 3 days!

Many good suggestions for you on this forum for web design software. As mentioned, I told you I would have a look for a product I have that makes it really simple to make sales pages.

I found it!

I have uploaded it to my web site. You can see it here.

It is super easy to use. Just open it up, select a template and fill in the boxes.... Make sure you save...

What I like to do is the first time I use it, is make sort of a Master Template. Then each time I use it, I just open the program, load the Master and then just fill in the other boxes.

You can then save the page it makes and you are ready to go.

I find this and the Paypal button maker very handy to build sales pages.

I would recommend that if you are planning to build your own sites you learn, at least the basics of html and css. It really isn't as difficult as some people make out. If you get stuck a Google search will always find you the answers, and I am sure you could always find the help you need on this forum.

Later on that knowledge will make your life a lot easier.

In the meantime, a good alternative to Xsitepro is Serif's Webplus. It is completely WYSIWYG.

I haven't used it. I did take a look at an early version many years ago, which was very clunky, but they have moved on a lot since then.

I think the latest version probably costs around $100.00:

I have noticed one of my local competitiors uses it to build his customers' sites.

It uses css and xhtml. The one thing I don't like about it is that, because of the way the application works, it uses absolute positioning (in the code) for all the page elements, but that shouldn't bother you.

I have read through your posted replies and see that you have received some very good feedback and recommendations. I know that if you are new to learning to build your own websites, it can get very confusing, very quickly. I learned how to build my own website by working through some video tutorials put out by Chris Farrell. You can access them in my signature post. I had never put up my own site and by the time I was through with the tutorials, I had one up and running. The free ebook I am currently giving away in my signature post is a direct result of this training. It's nothing fancy but got me up and running and it can only get better from here.

I know you are looking for software so you can do it yourself. But take it from someone who has several websites--it's just not worth it to go on your own most of the time.

You can spend hours of your time trying to figure it out when you could have had a good designer at elance do the job for $60-$80.

I found my first web designer on ebay and got a site build for $100 that makes me over $100 a month today. $100 a month may not seem like much but but it adds up over time.

For my next site I purchased an SBI subscription and used one of their templates. It was the easiest thing I ever did. I highly recommend their service if you are going to build a big content site and want to do it so that it brings in major traffic. The site I built with them is one of my money-makers today even though I never finished it due to a much bigger opportunity that came my way.

I've built some sites myself by modifying the designs that I paid other people to make for me. I've used wordpress to create static websites. But by far my best use of time for a major project is using one of my outsource partners.

I spend my time creating content. They do the technical stuff. And I make the lions share of money--especially since almost all my projects bring me passive income.

Something to think about.

PS Of course it's a good idea to know html yourself. When I add pages to my websites I will often do that myself. And I can only do that because I know html basics. I just don't waste time trying to become a web designer.

I have the best solution for you in one word Joomla. It is the best CMS solution on the internet right now. Free, easy to use you can edit, add, and remove content very, very, easily. You can auto install through the your cpanel or do a manual install, and depeding on who you host with they may even install it for you.

Google Joomla and just take a look. Go with the newer 1.5 version. Take a look at some templates there are thousands of them, there are thousands of plugins, modules and, componets you can add and are very easy to use, try Googling Joomla templates you will get a lot of results. Give it a try you can install it in subfolders. You don't need to know any HTML. Add images audio and or video stream or local.

You are still going to have to learn some HTML coding, and it is in your best interest to do so.

If anything goes wrong, you may not know how to fix it.

Always test pages in a test folder on your webspace so that they look right and integrate/flow with the other pages.

Thus if any editing needs to be done, you can still do it in the test folder.

Once its all good to go you can upload the page to it's appropriate place.

I use dreamweaver, and alot of the times just use the 1 click installs of cpanel/fantastico for things like WP, Joomla, and a bunch of other scripts. Typically thats the easiest route if you want a site up quickly..

So, if you use cpanel/fantastico just find the type of site you want, 1 click install (ie. wordpress) then change /edit the site through the admin panel to your liking. Maybe change colors, logo etc (from within the theme editor) and Violla! There you have it.

I Love wordpress! I have to say. Usually can create a site within a couple hours (totally make it look custom with a bit of tweaking)

XSitePro 2 is a very easy to use (no HTML required) website builder.

You do not need to know any HTML or how to modify templates with PSD.

There is no database or mySQL install either.

It has forms, buttons, video, audio and graphics built it right into it.

I was using dreamweaver for a long time and now that I got Vista, I can't use it anymore. I downloaded NVU and was not able to find a dual view. That is the html and the source at the same time. does anyone know if this is an option with NVU?

I absoulutely love the ease of use and quickness of XSite Pro. They have a video on their website about it. I have been using it for some time now for your basic sites. It's about 100 bucks, but very worth it.

Dreamweaver appears extremely complicated on the outside and does have thousands of features that a beginner doesn't need or will ever use. Because of the powerful features it has, it is the number one choice of professional web designers.

Thanks all. I found a program that helps me to create mini-sites with ease, but pretty much gave up on the website builder. I think I've tried them all. I'm going to see if I have better luck working with wordpress sites.

Wordpress is the way to go. There are plenty of video tutorials out there to get you started. It's not just for blogs, and you won't ever find anything more powerful and simple.

Lots of themes work great for static pages. You can also use it for Membership sites once you are ready for that.

Before you pick a tool, I think it is best to decide what you want to do with it long term. I see you say 1 to 50 pages, but is this a one time thing or are you going to be staying in the IM field and need something you will be using for a long time. Investing a bit of your hard earned cash in the right tools can go a long way. For years (even that many developers hated it) I used Microsoft Front Page. I just stayed away from the built in "themes" it had. What I liked was the WYSIWYG editor and then being ablt to look at the HTML behind the scene and make tweaks to it. If you plan on being around for a long time and will be making changes to your site, I would suggest that you DO learn the basics of HTML. HTML is not a difficult thing to learn and if you head on over to w3schools.com, they have an excellent reference AND online FREE tutorials. Today, I use Adobe Dreamweaver. Most likely you don't want this as it has a huge tool selection. I also design CSS and PHP, so need something with the power. I have been told that the Coffeecup HTML editor is not bad so you many want to look into a google search for it. Also, I have a number of sites hosted at Lunarpages.com. They have a FREE web site builder you can use that comes with the hosting package. I have not used it, but the reports are it also is pretty good. Now, I have been hearing good things about the NVU editor and best of all for YOU, it is FREE.... visit NVU to check it out and give us your feedback. Hope that helps you....

Coffeecup I feel is easier to pick up for beginners but I only really use it for one feature it has or at least I did untill I found out that Dreamweaver had a similar feature. I've heard good things about Xsitepro especially as regards beginners using it. It's not that cheap at $197 but if you're planning on doing this for a while it is worth investing in the right tools it saves you so much time in the long run. Of the three I've mentioned Dreamweaver is the most expensive and Coffeecup being the cheapest. There is a free trial for both Dreamweaver and Coffeecup so you can try them out and see which one you prefer. Regards Byron

I would recommend wordpress because you can install that in a minutes with their installer. Hostgator is who I use. There is also weebly.com and synthesite.com As for Kompozure it's good but you need to use ftp. You can do a search on google for total commander, it's a really easy to use program. So create the site then upload it via ftp. It's pretty easy.

You just start it up, fill in ALL the boxes (type), press the button at the end and it creates a site for you. Great for mini sites that you just want to get going fast. Can't remember the name of it off hand as I have not used it in a while (I am a web developer), but was impressed at the time when I tested it. Seems to me it was one of those things I purchased for 9.99 a while back... I know I have resell rights, just need to dig into my library and see if I can find it.... If you are interested let me know and I'll start the search. I still think learning a bit of HTML and using NVU(,com) is a good idea, but that is up to you.

I was out of town visiting family, then had to work on our eBay business with my wife after we got back. We have shipped over 40 products in the last 3 days! Many good suggestions for you on this forum for web design software. As mentioned, I told you I would have a look for a product I have that makes it really simple to make sales pages. I found it! I have uploaded it to my web site. You can see it here. Click Here It is super easy to use. Just open it up, select a template and fill in the boxes.... Make sure you save... What I like to do is the first time I use it, is make sort of a Master Template. Then each time I use it, I just open the program, load the Master and then just fill in the other boxes. You can then save the page it makes and you are ready to go. I find this and the Paypal button maker very handy to build sales pages. Hope this helps you! It really isn't as difficult as some people make out. If you get stuck a Google search will always find you the answers, and I am sure you could always find the help you need on this forum. Later on that knowledge will make your life a lot easier. In the meantime, a good alternative to Xsitepro is Serif's Webplus. It is completely WYSIWYG. I haven't used it. I did take a look at an early version many years ago, which was very clunky, but they have moved on a lot since then. I think the latest version probably costs around $100.00: Web Design Software - WebPlus X2 from Serif Check out the little video on this page. http://www.serif.com/assets/videos/p...plus-high.html But you can download an older version to play with FREE: FreeSerifSoftware – free software downloads I have noticed one of my local competitiors uses it to build his customers' sites. It uses css and xhtml. The one thing I don't like about it is that, because of the way the application works, it uses absolute positioning (in the code) for all the page elements, but that shouldn't bother you. I know that if you are new to learning to build your own websites, it can get very confusing, very quickly. I learned how to build my own website by working through some video tutorials put out by Chris Farrell. You can access them in my signature post. I had never put up my own site and by the time I was through with the tutorials, I had one up and running. The free ebook I am currently giving away in my signature post is a direct result of this training. It's nothing fancy but got me up and running and it can only get better from here. But take it from someone who has several websites--it's just not worth it to go on your own most of the time. You can spend hours of your time trying to figure it out when you could have had a good designer at elance do the job for $60-$80. I found my first web designer on ebay and got a site build for $100 that makes me over $100 a month today. $100 a month may not seem like much but but it adds up over time. For my next site I purchased an SBI subscription and used one of their templates. It was the easiest thing I ever did. I highly recommend their service if you are going to build a big content site and want to do it so that it brings in major traffic. The site I built with them is one of my money-makers today even though I never finished it due to a much bigger opportunity that came my way. I've built some sites myself by modifying the designs that I paid other people to make for me. I've used wordpress to create static websites. But by far my best use of time for a major project is using one of my outsource partners. I spend my time creating content. They do the technical stuff. And I make the lions share of money--especially since almost all my projects bring me passive income. Something to think about. Rodney PS Of course it's a good idea to know html yourself. When I add pages to my websites I will often do that myself. And I can only do that because I know html basics. I just don't waste time trying to become a web designer.

It is the best CMS solution on the internet right now. Free, easy to use you can edit, add, and remove content very, very, easily. You can auto install through the your cpanel or do a manual install, and depeding on who you host with they may even install it for you. Google Joomla and just take a look. Go with the newer 1.5 version. Take a look at some templates there are thousands of them, there are thousands of plugins, modules and, componets you can add and are very easy to use, try Googling Joomla templates you will get a lot of results. Give it a try you can install it in subfolders. You don't need to know any HTML. Add images audio and or video stream or local.

If anything goes wrong, you may not know how to fix it. Always test pages in a test folder on your webspace so that they look right and integrate/flow with the other pages. Thus if any editing needs to be done, you can still do it in the test folder. Once its all good to go you can upload the page to it's appropriate place. Please let us know of your progress.

Typically thats the easiest route if you want a site up quickly.. So, if you use cpanel/fantastico just find the type of site you want, 1 click install (ie. wordpress) then change /edit the site through the admin panel to your liking. Maybe change colors, logo etc (from within the theme editor) and Violla! There you have it. I Love wordpress! I have to say. Usually can create a site within a couple hours (totally make it look custom with a bit of tweaking)

They have a video on their website about it. I have been using it for some time now for your basic sites. It's about 100 bucks, but very worth it. Good Luck
