Query about WordPress posts URLs

Hi

My WP posts are all "sticky", i.e. a dedicated page per post...

.com/article1; .com/article2 etc.

What I'm wondering is why, when I delete a post, and re-do it, does WP allocate it (the URL) with a suffix "-2", and if I repeat, a suffix "-3" and so on. Even when I delete the "-2" in the URL "edit" box

i.e. mydomain.com/articlepost-2

Is there any way around this? Why does it occur? It still works ok but looks so unsightly

Thanks for advice

    Hi Ian,

I've experienced the same thing. I can not get the same permalink as the similar post that I've deleted.

This is because the deleted post is still there.

What you need to do is to really delete those posts by going to WP admin panel > All Posts, look for the Trash.
Select the deleted posts, then Delete Permanently.

    Hope it helps.

that will delete ALL posts, whilst the other function will give you the option of leaving certain posts in the trash.

Thanks outwest, for pointing out to empty trash function. Yes, you can use empty trash. It is simpler.. just one click to remove all of your deleted posts permanently. As Rob noted, empty trash will delete ALL of your deleted posts permanently.
