Wordpress permalinks not working

Anyone ever have this problem? A friend and I put together a wp site with a static front page, and the blog page is called "news." Whenever a post is made, it goes to the news page, and it creates a permalink based on the title of the post. But that link goes to a "page not found" error.

You can see the post on the news page, but there is no page for the permalink. I can't figure it out. For now, I'm using the sitenamedotcom/category/news when posting links on FB, and that works fine. But I want to be able to post the permalink with the name of the article, so people can see what it is before they click it.

Thanks in advance for any help you folks might have
Merry Christmas!

This happens when the .htaccess file is not writable by the server.

You can change the permissions temporarily and let Wordpress write the correct redirection settings.

In FTP, right-click on the file and temporarily (not permanently!) set the permissions number to 777. Then just go in wordpress to the Permalinks page and save the settings.

Then set it to 644 or whatever the settings were to begin with.

      or /%postname%/

Also, make sure that you have properly setup your homepage and blogpage from Settings > Reading.

        Wrong 2x (two times)
        - there is no such structure tag
        - no need for html crap

        Don't post misleading, wrong info!

It's interesting, I posted this a long time ago. The issue was eventually worked out, but I never got any notification that anyone replied to the question here on Warrior Forum. I have "Instant Email Notification" selected, but I guess it's not working.
