I'm on a tight budget and hope to be making a profit later with which I can make upgrades.

I'm about to create my first very simple site consisting of a landing page with email capture and a products page hooked up to a paypal shopping cart. Can I use paypal as my autoresponder?

Paypal captures the e-mail address of your customer, but it doesn't capture it in a way that lets you easily contact them. Two ways to get around this. Get a script that will automatically grab those e-mail addresses that PayPal captures and import them into a mailing list service that you run from your own hosting (just be sure to comply with all laws) OR you can subscribe to an auto-responder company and just ask your customers to add their info so that you can followup with them.

One of the best investments you can make as an internet marketer is to invest in a good autoresponder. I personaly use 1shoppingcart as my autoresponder because they also have a shoppingcart, digital product delivery, a merchant account and basicaly everything else a marketer needs. But alot of marketers use awebber, wich is just fine too.

Paypal can in no way be considered an autoresponder.

You can look around and find alot of free autoresponders,(inmho most of them are useless) but if you are serious about this as a business (as you should be) you'll want to get a good autoresponder eventually anyway, so why not just start off with it now?

      Just my 2 cents.

    Hi,

Both earlier replies are correct. Paypal isn't an autoresponder service, which means you have to setup the email capture yourself and either tie that in with one of the popular autoresponser service like Aweber, Getresponse or One Shopping cart (I use Aweber) or setup an autoresponser service up on your hosting account or local computer.

While the are advantages to running the service yourself, mainly costs, longer term you will be much better off using one of the popular services. They provide better email delivery, with double opt-in you are way less likely to be hit for spamming and less management headaches especially when your business starts growing. Their cost are reasonable for what they provide and it's a good investment for your business if you are serious about it.

Don't waste your time with that idea (using PP as a AR).

If money is tight, then use phpList (its can be installed via Fantastico or just download the source (its FREE) from http://www.phplist.com)

Works very well, and no monthly costs

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the help.

I am looking to keep a slim budget. I think for the moment phpList and paypal are the route I'll take.
