Hello warriors,

I am running a technology and science blog for a year now. I have two pages that can be used as my site's main homepage, I'd love yo get your input on which one is the best for my homepage (design and user-friendliness wise) based on your experience.

At the moment the site uses the simple homepage at fellowgeek.com but if you click on the site logo you will see the alliterative home page.

Thanks

    Dear fellowgeek,
I think your homepage too much article in home,
Just put 5 of 7 article, I mean that loading web easily and quickly when a user visits your site.

    Thanks.

Personally i like the page with the slider, but it talkes too long to load is my issue with it. If you could speed up the load time somehow, the alternative would be my pick

      indeed...
don't put too many article in your homepage..
the loading time will kill your visitor...
and don't forget to use an elegant color combination.

Congrats on the site. Well done. I could see it getting huge. Fellow Geek... Catchy.

I agree that the slider page loads a little slow, but I don't prefer it anyway.

If I had a kick butt site going like fellowgeek, I'd forget about a slider, but try to add something at the top of the articles similar to techcrunch to grab more immediate attention.

    Good Luck

Thanks, it is a good idea, I will try to implement something like what techcrunch has to feature weekly popular articles on top for more attention.

Tthe site has been up for a year but I don't get enough traffic. on average I get 400-500 uniques per day and still loosing money on I hope it will change eventually.

I wrote myown CMS so it is really easy for me to change everything in the site.

Hey man really cool website! Looks like it has some great information there. I like both of the layouts to be honest. Simple and clean just what I like.. I do however prefer this layout more as it looks more elegant.. geek journal - your daily source for geek news.

Kudos on your site.. I actually like the alternative page better, the one with the slider. It seems a lot "friendlier" for some reason.

There is something which i don't like on the alternative page, the main home page is more clean and friendly for me.

Only issue is the too many articles, reduce the article number on the main home page and include a full width header(slideshow) and you will be just fine!

Overall the slider page is better. Site looks like a more established site rather than a straight up blog.

Thanks for the input, I am going to try and reduce the number of articles in homepage and add a widget that shows featured articles.

I have not changed the homepage yet because for some reason the slideshow JavaScript on the other homepage version slows thing down.

I am actually looking at slashgear design and layout and want to implement some of that into the new homepage.

but I added a new section to the site called GEEK GEAR which is an Amazon affiliate product page for geek audience.

So a change in the homepage is coming soon, thanks for all the guidance.

The slideshow JavaScript in your alternative homepage really makes the site better than the other, however the loading time is slow. I hope you can find solution for this. Good luck!
