Local Servers Influence on SEO

Do the the Location of servers of hosting providers have big influence on SERPS for local rankings?

I know it is a factor. But how big of a factor is it?..I'm trying to get my site ranked for my country's serps ( google Malaysia) ....and I've it's hosted on hostgator... it's not rising as fast as I would like it to be

    but it affects indirectly..
    the location of the server related to site loading time...
    and loading time is one of the important elements on SEO..
