Should I swap from Blogger to WordPress?

Currently, I'm using Blogger to host my main blog which is great because I can use a custom domain and don't have to pay for hosting. Lately I've been wondering whether I should swap to WordPress, I've seen loads of nice WP templates and also there are tons of plugins. Just a few questions though,

Can WordPress host my domain for free, or would I have to purchase hosting?

Also, I've read WordPress doesn't allow AdSense, even though I've seen WP blogs with AdSense on, how come?

Thank you warriors! I have Google'd these questions but I keep finding different answers

From what you have written, I think you are confusing two different blogging platforms: a) Wordpress.COM b) Wordpress.ORG

99.9% of all professional bloggers use Wordpress.ORG CMS (content management system.) It is this which offers thousands of different themes and probably as many plugins.

Wordpress.COM does not allow commercial use - it's intended for personal blogging only.

If you want to become a full time blogger and consider it as a business, lets move your website to a self hosted wordpress website.

Yes, don't confuse blogs on wordpress.com (i.e. free hosted blogs, like Blogger) with wordpress.org (i.e. a self-hosted blog, where you download their software, install it at your own host, and host it under your own domain).

If you want to build a brand and be taken seriously, I suggest the last option above. You can then display any ads you want.

You are better to get your own hosting and create a wordpress blog. You have better control and are more likely to rank your wordpress site higher.

Wordpress.com is a free hosting site like blogger and if you use it then you are unable to use nice template and huge collection of Plugins.
And if you use Wordpress.org then you will able to use nice template and a tons of free plugins. I think if you want to be a good blogger then you have to go for wordpress.org and paid hosting.
Wordpress.org support Adsense I know it because it is a full Website.
      Best of luck.

You're better off going with an actual web host. You will have more control over your entire site. It's simple to install, but you need to make sure it's secure. Best things I recommend my clients to do with Wordpress (sometimes I do it for them) is:

    Install Login Lockdown
Change the admin username to something other than "admin"
    Move the config file
    Edit the .htaccess
    use a strong, generated password
don't run as admin - use a user account unless you need to make changes
    leverage caching
    make sure it's ALWAYS updated
Don't rely on ANY other security plugin other than Login Lockdown - manually work the security

and a few other things, but I wont give all my secrets away!

It is not clear to me whether your purpose for putting up a site is for blogging or for any other reasons. If you are into blogging and you want a free blog site, then having a Wordpress blog is a good choice. Try Wordpress. You will love it a lot. They provide a lot of free beautiful themes and useful plugins.

Blogger stands in awe of WordPress, and here is why.

WordPress is open-source; this is the main benefit that your business can enjoy for the duration of your stay. Blogger is also somewhat open source, but the development isn't as advanced as with WP. Having unencoded programming means innovative plugins, gorgeous themes, and relatively simple customization. WordPress is also simple to manage, so if you ever expand and want to outsource running it, explaining how to update it will be easy. This is the second benefit. Since I like my trains of thoughts in threes, I want to also mention the third benefit: SEO. Although Google seems to weigh all sites based on content and links, WordPress simply makes this easier (with trackbacks, META tag plugins, and other convenient features like site maps and RSS tools). All of the above made me build my main business site around WordPress! Blogger simply doesn't compare.
