Hi Warriors, I'm way out of my depth with website designers - I'm an aged pensioner with far more knowledge of steam than computers. Due to a virus I recently lost a simple HTML editor that I have used for a few years now and fully understood. Since then I've downloaded two other HTML editors and found them way too complex for my knowledge level. All I need is something that allows me to enter in plain text and it automatically converts to HTML. I do know how to add colors, bold, italics, hyperlinks etc. But I need something that automatically converts plain text to HTML. Can anybody help with a suggestion please? Cheers, Davmac |

Hi Davmac, This one takes plain text files and automatically coverts them with basic html tags (so you can continue editing the html afterwards), it's free: easy HTools: Easy Text To HTML Converter: Description What was the simple html editor you had before the virus? |

You might want to check out Sea Monkey The SeaMonkey Project. This is basically Netscape under another name, and is very simple to use. It comes with a suite of tools you probably won't need, so when you install it, select "custom" and deselect the mail client and instant messenger. The HTML software is very easy to use, and will convert plain text into HTML. |

Hi Davmac, I have been using KomPozer and can recommend it highly. If you need some simple, down to earth instruction on building a website, website design, etc, I can also recommend some great instructional videos... you can check them out posted in my signature. Let me know if you need more help. Christine |

Thanks Warriors, I appreciate the kind help offered by everybody and am busy following up all of the suggestions. What I like most about this forum is that a pure dummy like me can get logical and helpful responses from people with far greater talent. Thanks everybody your help is invaluable. Cheers, Davmac |

Basic HTML Editor is a program which helps to code in HTML. Basic HTML has also got some in-built HTML codes like Center, Page title, and Marquee. You can also save your HTML file and back up of your code. Back up code will be saved in txt file.

It includes hundreds of templates, allows you to insert video, allows you to insert Amazon and Google Adsense ads and a lot more without looking at the code. | |

I'll chime in to endorse Nvu at net2.com/nvu/download.html I write my HTML by hand, when I need to, that is. (I'm switching all of my sites to WordPress, and that eliminates most coding needs.) When I use an editor, I'm using the old 1st Page 2000... but it's not for beginners. I tried Dreamweaver, but when I needed to edit something, I preferred the clean code of Nvu. The fact that Nvu is free makes it my first choice when I recommend a WYSIWYG editor. |

Try nvu. you can get it free from download dot com. It has both the HTML and WYSIWYG. And just push a tab and ot turns one into the other and back again.

I agree with some on this that NVU is a good free editor but it has not been updated or is maintained anymore. The developers switched to KomPozer which is a decent free program. The more advanced I get the more I am using Dreamweaver. Good Luck. |

Install a notepad replacement. If you want to look under the hood of html, try notepad++. It's free, light and easy. However it doesn't convert anything. But it's great to look at your coding.
