Wordpress question

I have hostmonster. They offer wordpress for blogging and Livesite for making websites. Is wordpress for blogging only? or can I make a website with it?

Anyone familiar with Livesite and would this be better for building a website?

    Blogs are websites, just FYI.

    WordPress is not for "making websites" - it is a CMS = Content Management System. Meaning, you install it and you can start publishing your content online right away. Of course, the end result is a special kind of website, called blog.

    However, you can have content published that doesn't look like a conventional blog.
    In WP (as in most dynamic type of websites) the content and the layout/presentation is completely separated - i.e. you can show the same content using different themes (designs).

    I thought you wanted to learn the basics before doing anything

    You can use Wordpress to create a website, make a blog or both.

    Wordpress is pretty much great for all forms of web design. Over the years, it has become the go-to solution for most applications on the web. You'll find that starting with a Wordpress theme and working it to your needs is an effective way to have a good, well organized, and easy to manipulate website. It's great from a development standpoint and it's great from a website owner standpoint.

    Wordpress is great! I love it. Yes you can make websites not just blogging, millions of themes available and really easy to use. Thats all I use is wordpress I have tried static page design much more difficult to use. Google like wordpress as well..

    just don't make a blog page and dont make any posts.
    Wordpress is no longer a blog. It can be used to make a blog if you so choose.

    Wordpress = Content Management System

    and is basically the best CSM available.

    No wordpress is not blogging only. lol Wordpress is incredibly flexibly to fit any site need(almost) You are better off starting with wordpress anyway if this is a first website. It is simple to use and easy to customize. Best of luck to you!

    WordPress is an incredible powerful CMS, which originated as blogging software. Sadly, it still has the "blogging only" reputation in many quarters.

    It is plenty good enough for 95% of websites.
