I'm looking to create a store for Wordpress. I'm thinking of using some plug-ins. Can somebody also recommend me a good, cheap host please for me?

Any other tips or advice for Wordpress would be appreciated.

Thanks

And are these themes easy to modify?

If you have a small business, no need to create a shop/store wordpress. Just blogging and add some e-commercial plugins. I have done with this
Haven't actually started the business yet but I've got a good plan for it.

This is one of the greatest things about WordPress. You can approach your goal from a variety of angles. If you are just starting, you can always start with plugins and migrate to a full themed site later.

If you are looking for hosting, one thing to consider is SSL Certificates as well. Some hosts offer bundles specifically for eCommerce that can net a bit of savings.

How much typically are SSL certificates?

Usually from $19.99 a year and up, depending on the supplier. It really is helpful, to build trust.

You can get a GoDaddy Standard SSL for $12.99 a year. Just search Google for '12.99 godaddy ssl' and you'll see dozens of results.

Regarding WordPress Ecommerce plug-ins: They can work great for you depending on your needs. However, they are pretty cut & dry and you get what you get for the most part. You'll need a good programmer to do some customizations for you if you want anything to be changed.

There's a good amount of Ecommerce addons out there for wordpress and they seem pretty simple and easy to customize. Just do a simple search for them. Usually the good ones cost a little bit, but they give you all the code and resources you need. Otherwise, you might have to do some coding and tweaking yourself. Message me if you want some help finding one.

Is php essential in modifying the plug-ins?

As I'm starting to learn that.

You should have at least a basic idea of PHP if you're going to be editing plugins. However, most plugins have a pretty good administration area that allows you to modify it or apply certain settings without having to mess with the PHP.

Noticed this with themes as well.

                  Thanks.

Sometimes. Depends how you want to change it. If you want to change some wording, colors, etc. that may require a bit of html or css knowledge. But typically, if people have downloaded and installed the addon, you can do a simple search for help on that specific addon. Chances are someone else wants to, or has already changed something on the addon.

However, doesn't hurt to have some basic php knowledge and it might be helpful to at least find things you want to change in the code.

                  Ok, thanks.

I know basic HTML and some CSS so I reckon I could modify the appearance fine, it's just the actual workflow I'm unsure I could modify. I probably don't need to modify anything anyway so it should be all good.

I'm also hearing more and more raving reviews about Wordpress' ecommerce possibilities. Unfortunately I already invested in different ecommerce software.

Come to think of it...I can always start up a different ecommerce business in Wordpress.

PS. Not sure what your business will be about. But my advice:
my experience is that it is very common to pay via PayPall for digital products or sites like e.g. eBay. If it's a different kind of business, you should also offer the possibility to pay with credit card. Check with various payment providers about the costst involved!

The site will be for selling custom made posters. Just to clear that up with everyone. The payments will be made via credit card or Paypal.

Yes, when the process is encrypted. Even if your site does not collect customers financial data, like most places, it's all done through pay pal, still the trust thing. People don't always understand it's only through pay pal.

I just recently launched a project for a client at Deep South Tuning | OEM PARTS & PERFORMANCE VW AUDI SEAT BMW PORSCHE. Their site was built with the Listings Theme from Woothemes and using the Woocommerce Pluguin. He had his own hosting at DreamHost.

Hi! In the next few days I'm starting to do the same for a project, my research points me to:

    1.) A WooCommerce Theme
    2.) a WP Ecommerce template.

Let us know what you come up with, blessings!
