Sales Page Types: Is a Blog Page or Post Unsavory?

Hi, I have been looking for the right answer to a problem.

I want to sell some of my products from my own website. I could use the RAP formula... but I actually want to have a library of digitals offered from my own marketing site. SO...

I thought about a plugin as a solution. One that might create a different template so the blog/website wasn't dominating the header and so on. I looked and found a few things but then I just went and created a page and popped some graphics on it. Looked like it had potential.

What are your opinions? Is there some really good reason NOT to use pages or posts to sell your own stuff? Is there security problems?

You see what I am used to is the buying of a domain name and setting up shop for any product in a singular fashion like that... wondering about the downside of just bringing it all home.

I know the header with all it's navigation offers exits a standard product website wouldn't offer. I guess I am willing to allow the strength of the copy go up against the desire to click away.

Opinions?

This is what I started putting together

There is the example of what I was talking about... do you think it's bad or do you think it's good?

    Thanks in advance

You can find Wordpress themes (or make them yourself using Artisteer) which have no header, no top menu bar, etc if you don't want those things.

However, if what you are talking about is a shopping cart / catalog site where people will buy more than one thing, you usually want some form of navigation which allows them to view products one after the other.

If you are looking to have a single site with multiple single sales pages which don't link together, you can do that too.

    Chris-

It looks good but the navigation bar
and whatnot will DEFINITELY harm your
    conversions.

Think of your website as a bucket. Your
traffic is water. You want one hole in that
bucket, right at the bottom, so you can
funnel all the water to where you want it.
In this case, you want them all clicking
    your order button.

But if you put holes all over the bucket,
you have less water to play with.

    Make sense?

I know you said you're willing to put the
strength of copy against the temptation
to click the other links, but really, what's
the point in making things harder than they
    need to be?

You're putting clickable links in the most
valuable real estate on your entire page.
Even the most compelling copy would lose
clicks, and some of those clicks would
    otherwise be buyers.

I'm far from a WP expert, but I'm pretty
sure you can get rid of the links on the
salespages, and so avoid losing any
    traffic unnecessarily.

These are great replies and I really appreciate the time taken to let me know your thoughts.

I am looking as a possible solution at a couple of different plugins for Wordpress that do not interfere with the current theme you have but instead add a custom page option that allows you to add a completely configurable sales page option.

If anyone knows about this... and has experience using these... and can reference the ones they like... that would be uber helpful

    Thanks all
