How Do I Create A Download Link With PayPal Once Someone Pays?

Hello All,

I'm fairly new to IM and to Warrior Forum and I have a problem that I just can't figure out on my own.

When someone buys a product off me (eBook, software, etc.) and pays through PayPal, how do I set up the download link they are redirected to once they pay?

I know I need a PayPal business account (which I have) but that's as far as I go. I looked and searched but I am lost.

Any help? Thanks!

Joel

You could do it through the return url field in the Website Payment Preferences screen, direct them to a page with the download link on it.

As part of the process of setting up a PayPal button, PayPal allows you to enter a website url that visitors will be directed to once they pay.

Create a download page and direct customers there.

You should use some system which only allows certain number of downloads from one or two IP addresses. For a Drupal website Ubercart shop module allows it.
If you just give out a "secret" URL, this URL gets forwarded to a friend and this friend sends it to his friends and so on, until someone posts it somewhere and then you wonder why all of a sudden there are so many downloads and no sales at all.

Go to paypal, merchant services, scroll down and in the leftmost column choose website payments standard. Then click the create button now roughly in the middle of the screen. That'll open a new tab with button controls. Scroll cown and click Step 3: Customise advanced features (optional). Amone the options you'll find a box saying Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout. Tick it and paste the download page url in the space below. Remember to fill other necessary fields for the button then save it and it will guide your buyers to the download page.

Thanks for all the responses! I'll have to explore some more. I also found a software program called Linklok PayPal which does what I want (found on the vibralox dot com website. Would this be a waste of my money?

As sunray says, I don't want one person forwarding the link to all his friends and I lose out on money....thanks.

    Joell71 hello and welcome.

I think I know what you are talking about so here is a few things you can do to make this happen.

Just open an account with e-junkie $5 dollars a month and use your pay pal for the payment processor Or you can use pay-loadz or you can use a personal program called dl guard installing it on one of your domains and generating individual links or more.

These will automatically send the downloads to the people who buy from you via pay pay also protecting your downloads at the same time.

also you could use auto responders like aweber and imnica mail via pay pal as well to deliver your protected downloads

    Hopes this helps.

You don't need ejunkie if you're selling an ebook, you can use a feature on Paypal for free.

There are various websites where you can upload files for free. Once you upload the book, you will be provided with a download link.

Put this download link on the webpage where only the customers who have purchased your product can see.

The URL to this specific page needs to be inserted in the redirect field when you create your paypal button. To create your paypal button, follow these steps below.

    1. Login to paypal.

    2. Select 'Profile'

    3. Select 'My selling preferences'

    4. Under Selling Online, select Paypal buttons.

    5. Create a new Paypal button, and you have the option to select the currency you're selling your product for. You then have the option to copy and paste the URL of the page you want your customers to be redirected to.

    6. Copy and pase the code on your chosen webpage that you're selling the product on, the code will display a Paypal button on your webpage. When a customer clicks the Paypal button, they will be directed to Payapl to pay for your product, then once they have paid, they get redirected to your download page.

    All the best,
    Jason

Whether you should use e-junkie or not depends entirely upon what you are selling.

Drupal + Ubercart give full control over downloads of the files you sell. During the purchase, PayPal send your website a message that the transaction was successful, Ubercart automatically may create a new user account (if he already didn't have any) and sends an email with the link(s) to the purchased file(s). The links are something like: yourdomain.com/nb97w4h9hngw9erth9hr9gh and do not give any refrence to the actual location of the file in your server. After the allowed number of downloads are made, the link don't work any more. There are three settingis to configure: numbers of downloads, number of IP addresses and time limit. All may be configured exactly as you wish.

The good thing about Drupal and Ubercart is, it's all FREE :-)

Hey Joel I was having that same exact issue and the easiest service I found that does all of this for you is ejunkie a digital storage and download company and as long as you have a paypal account they do everything else for you. The most you'll have to do is copy the code into your website.

Is this setup the same for when you have multiple downloadable products. Lets say they select 1, hit add to cart/paypal button, then they pay, and is redirected to the download, ok that seems like everyone knows how to do.

Lets say the select 3 products, or 2 or 5. Then hit paypal button and pay and get redirected with their 5 products, how is this achieved? thank you!

It's an option when you create a Paypal button.
