I've been putting together a site that I wanted to use as a "home base" for various affiliate products, physical products, and eventually my own info products related to self-sufficient ideas. But right now I'm sort of frozen and frankly a bit overloaded with info. I originally wanted to design it as a membership site where users could post articles/tips or eventually have a forum once it got enough traffic.
So anyways, could I get some reviews of the basic look of the site firstly. And Secondly any advice on where I should/could go with this site. I created it in Joomla which was a bit of a learning curve for me and am still trying to get used to it's features. www.infonibbles.com Thanks, I really appreciate it! |

love the name, infonibbles.com!
the only thing I don't like is the link color..the orange links are kind of hard on my eyes. other than that I think this could turn into a really good site. Definitely make it a membership site where users can submit their own "nibbles"...Use that word "nibbles" like something like: "want to submit your own nibbles to this site? Click here to register." Give them some incentive for joining, like something available to them that the public doesn't get and promote like crazy...social bookmarking sites are your best bet, and also write a few food-related artciles to get you some backlinks Good Luck! |

Thanks yes I suppose it is a bit bright against the white background. Now I just have to figure out how to change it. I am thinking its by editing the .css in the template, but I can't seem to find it.

Nikoka. You don't the Joomla? I'm not sure what you mean. Do you not like this template... Or you don't like the CMS Joomla? What else do you prefer? This project is still very early in development, I would love to hear other opinions on what others might use for a site such as this besides Joomla.
So... Is this an ok template? Should I switch templates... switch CMS. Any other thoughts on it's direction? Thanks

I would suggest using some other color theme. The contrast with the background is a bit too bright and might bother some people. Good luck.

Yes, I went with orange because it's a color associated with appetite or hunger. I'm trying to figure out how to change that font color.

I like the look, It might be a little bright, but that might be good to "brand" the site. I'm not sure what the "CB Login" represents. Do you intend to have a "newsletter" subscription separate from site membership? A free membership could build a following and build content on autopilot. I think the navigation, once you follow an article, could be improved so that you had more options from the single article.

Yes Robin, this is the stuff I'm lookin for. Good input. CB is a membership component I installed in joomla, which I clearly need to rename that part. Because yes it makes no sense. Also, the newsletter verses membership is a great point. Do I really need to offer a newsletter if I also offer a membership that might include a newsletter? Doesn't seem like it! Someone correct me here...
Free membership to build site content and community seems to be the way I should go with this. I am confused by one comment you made: Quote:

On the main page you have a choice of New Articles
Popular
and Main Menu if you go to say the pickles choice, all the visitor can do is pick from the last three. You could present the first 10 options on one of the sidebars, rather than requiring the visitor to go back to access those choices. ---------------- My suggestion would be " Become a free member of infonibbles and you can get our fantastic newsletter"

Okay, I'm definitely not one to help with HTML or whether to use a newsletter or even marketing but... I know colors.
Actually, yellow and orange or GREAT colors. And I know you guys may think I've gone mad...but really, if you like the color orange, (I do) and it is a good food color, it needs to be brighter and the yellow too. Throw in a touch of black and a tiny tiny bit of red. Maybe a thin red border somewhere. Check out Vemma's home site for an example. The vitamins & mineral product. Good Luck! |

And the color "green" too. But remember you need to go deeper with their brightness. Not neon, but a deep bright. Let's "SEE" the orange!

I am big on going green, but the energy article seems out of place in the midst of all the food.
Somehow I liked the other appearance better, but don't go back on just one midnight(cst) impression |

the concept of the site is self-sufficiency, which of course can go many different ways. Right now I am just trying to modify other templates... so my original template is still easily retrievable. So those who saw the old one.. why did you like/not like it better compared to this one? Note this is just a cosmetic question as the guts are all still the same right now. Thanks a bunch all. This is really helping get going on this.
