Domaining - How long is too long?

Just wondering how long is too long for a domain name. I have a name that fits my niche very well, but I'm worried that the name is too long (20 characters).

The domain is two words, each word is 10 characters.

A similar domain would be PromotionTechniques.com, does that domain seem too long?

The domain is too long and I think it is hard for SEO. Try PromotionTech.com ^^

Not to worry. The domain name is easy to remember although it is long. Only thing is it takes longer to type it in address bar. However this won't be a problem as writing two words is not that tedious, they may not even need to type it by using bookmarks or history. I think the domain name is good to go.

There is nothing wrong with that length. Most of your success will be from someone clicking an anchored link so I highly doubt people will type it in that often. Unless, of course, you are passing out business cards.

    I agree with kcartlidge.

A key word rich domain name, which is topic or niche specific, being promoted online with links coming from search engines and online promotional activity probably won’t hurt and will not be typed in very often.

If you want to stick it on the side of a bus though, it should be memorable and preferably short.

If you've actually got content and not trying to sell **** it shouldn't be that big of a problem, of course something shorter would be preferable though.

Three words, unless you have a very recognizble brand, such as goodyeartirecompany. Three words is the limit on that for me.

Your domain is perfect. I think domain are perceived too long from 4 words and more but not the case here.

As some others have said, it depends on the purpose of the domain?

Are you a) Creating a Brand b) Targeting a Keyword

If you are targeting a keyword, then in my mind, it can be 50 letters long for all I care.

If you are trying to create a brand then something short would be best. Short. Catchy. Memorable.
