Webpage, Complete saving as .htm instead of .html

The other day, I was able to save web pages via Webpage, Complete dropdown command as .html files. There was no problem with that as I wanted them saved as .html files.

Then yesterday, I noticed I get only .htm files using the same way of saving a web page on my computer (Webpage, Complete) instead of the correct .html files. I used other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera) to do the exact same operation but I get the exact same result: live .html web pages are saved to my local machine as .htm files.

Why is this so? What may be causing this aberration? I could really use some help here, so thanks in advance!

I'm using Firefox and Right Click -> Save Page As... is defaulted to the .html extension.

Yes, Orb, that's what I have too. I see the .html extension okay. But when a page lands on my computer, the extension changes to .htm and I did nothing other than saving it via Webpage, Complete.

      That's what drives me nuts!

It may be a settings thing in Windows, my XP laptop only shows .htm available. There is little difference other than the one 'l' in the file name. Back in the days of DOS you only had a 3 character extension and so .htm was born.

Thanks for chiming in, Earnie! I understand what you're saying.

But why the sudden change when just a couple of days ago I was saving web pages correctly as .html files unto my local machine and then now I am not able to do just that as what I am getting now are .htm files for .html files? I know the difference is insignificant. What I'm concerned about is if something has gone wrong with my computer that is why this issue is happening.

I just want to fix something that I feel is out of the ordinary things used to run on my machine. Primarily because with the particular web page I want to save, it seems a script on there is not working now after the correct .html files of the web page are saved as .htm files instead on my PC.

When I was still able to save the web page correctly as .html files, the script worked. Now that I get only .htm files from supposedly .html files, it's no longer working.

If it is something in the Windows settings, where can I find it?
