Dear Warriors,
I was planning this for the last couple of days, and I would like to hear your thoughts about this. I have already a domain name, a hosting, a template and content to start this, but I would like to hear experiences from people that is already in this place.

Should I host my new blog on wordpress, changing the domain name?
Should I host the blog separately?

What are the real benefits of each one?

Of course I want to make an informational blog, sharing valuable content, and promote products to my visitors, direct them to my squeeze pages, etc. No need to say that I am taking this very seriously I just want to start it the right way, from a professional perspective.

Ideas and thoughts are more than welcome!
Kind regards

Wordpress is probably preferred just because it has so much to offer that makes it easy and so many other apps and plugins are made to work on wordpress.

I agree Wordpress is a good starting point, even for beginners like myself. A lot of functionality and ease of use to make a website quickly (plus good plugins). Although, someday in the future, I do have some interest in the other CMS out there like Magento, Joomla, and Drupal. But I have heard all of these have a much higher learning curve, but that doesn't stop me from trying to learn it. It could be valuable to my business someday to have the flexibility to create a different CMS site.

As someone who had to learn HTML coding before WordPress existed, I can say without a doubt it is a great tool to get a professional looking website up and running easily. When you add in all of the plugins available, it becomes a no brainer. You know how a certain phone likes to say, "There's an app for that.", WordPress can just about say, " there's a plugin for that."

As for your question as to whether or not to host your squeeze pages on the same domain as your blog, it's really your choice. I will say there are plugins that allow you to have squeeze pages that look different from your blog. Additionally, you have the option of creating HTML or PHP based pages in a different directory if you don't want to use WordPress as your tool for implementing it. You don't have to use only WordPress on a domain, you can mix and match if you'd like. Your call.

    I hope this helps.

    Never!

The blogs at wordpress.COM are not owned by you! Plus, read their TOS: no commercial use allowed. They can delete it in a second... Never build your web properties on third party platforms.

If you have the domain, the hosting and the "template" - you can NOT come up with a better solution.

(Just a side note: I am wondering, is that a general web site 'template' or are you referring to a WP 'theme'?)

Also, you can install WP on a subdomain (something.example.com) or in a subfolder (example.com/blog-title)...

I'd suggest installing on your own server, so you can have full control over it.

    Thanks for all the responses!

Istvan, I am going to use a self-made template, to use a blog as well as different article pages (maybe for adsense, I didn't decide this yet), and a Squeeze page, in different tabs. And I created it well enough to be able to add or remote more tabs in the future, depending on the needs I could have.

So it is decided then, I will host it myself and have full control over it.
Thanks a lot guys for your assistance.

If tabs is all you're wanting to customize, I still say go with an installation of wordpress on your hosted site. Under appearance, you can choose menus, and decide exactly what tabs appear on the top of your blog (there are even two levels of menus). That way, you can completely change how your site/ blog looks simply by changing the theme, and you can benefit from the many plugins available while still maintaining control of your tabs without having to reinvent the wheel.
