Need Some Serious Advice

Hi all

Im about to start a new project and I need some advice regarding the tools I should use when putting my site together.

What I want to do is: build a fairly simple classifieds website for the people in my local area using WP. After the site begins to make me some money via paid listings I want to expand on the classifieds site and turn it into a news site which then uses the classifieds as one segments that makes up the whole.

I want to build and design it all from scratch potentially using templates because I want to learn the inner workings of my own project so that if later down the track I have problems I know what im doing at least.

Ive been told and ive read that DIY Thesis might be the way to go.

Firstly Im not experienced in web design although I can string together HTML when using good guides and I have put together blogs using the blogger platform.

Any advice?

    I don't know if wordpress would be your best bet. You might want to try Joomla, they have a lot of components for classifieds ads, then once you want to turn it to a news site that will be an easy change.

    I've used ListBingo for a project and it was pretty good, but there are quite a few to choose from with different options.

    You should really learn some basic PHP so that you can make minor changes to how the listing system works etc, so you dont have to pay someone to do simple work.
