If i have a domain named mainsite.com and want to add another domain using wordpress secondsite.com I get a web address for my second site as mainsite.com/secondsite

I want to be able to have people get to my second site by typing in
secondsite.com rather than mainsite.com/secondsite.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

I'm a relative newbie to wordpress but I am a quick learner.....

Thanks everyone!

If you use HostGator as your host, or another host that allows add-on domains, you can add the second domain to your hosting package. While in your hosting cpanel/FTP the second domain "looks" like it's a folder directory; when you access it via the web, you type in the secondsite.com domain to access it.

Also, you have to actually purchase the domain name secondsite.com and point the nameservers to your hosting account

"Add-on domain" is the magic word. Search your hosting provider's tutorials/help section.

I have added on the domain but now i'm having a really strange problem. When I try to access the admin site - secondsite.com/wp-admin - I'm getting a 404 page not found error! I'm actually clicking on the link provided by WP during the installation! Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how did you correct it?

I assume you changed the DNS at your registrar to point to your hosting.

Did you use an auto-installer (like Fantastico) to install WP, if so - did you make sure to choose the secondsite.com domain from the dropdown as the domain to install it to.
