Worpress theme recommendations please

I am looking to set up a site for my mom. She makes upcycled clothing, and is wanting to have a blog type site that promotes her Etsy shop.

We are thinking that the site will be a blog, with "how to's", maybe some videos, articles about upcycled clothing etc. The main point will be to brand her and to get traffic to her etsy shop. We would also like to have a page that shows off recent items she has created. It would almost look like the actual shop, but when you click on the item it would send them to the etsy shop. So, I would like a theme that would allow for easy posting of the pics. I am a newbie so a very user friendly theme would be great.

Any recommendations for a FREE wordpress theme that will work well with this type of site?

        If you're willing to do some customization you could try Suffusion (sorry, can't link as this is my first post). With it you can create static pages (for the how-to's, for example), blog entries, galleries.

          I went to the new site and tried to install some of the themes recommended here. Just to check them out. For some reason they act like they are installing, but then nothing. Is this a wordpress issue or what? This is very frustrating considering I want to get started on this site ASAP! Is this just a wordpress issue or what? thanks!

        Yep. All free. Go here and just click on Themes. There are thousands to choose from: WordPress › Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS

        You can also use their search feature to check out the ones people are suggesting.

    My favorite free themes are from WooThemes.
    For your needs, I'd suggest Swatch. I also really like BlogTheme. It really all depends on your needs. I think Swatch would suit you, though.

      Ok I am getting really frustrated. At work I tried to install a couple of themes to play around with, but could not get them to install. Thought it might be a issue with the computer I was on, but now I am trying at home and it is still not working.

      When I am in the admin area of wordpress, I go to themes>install themes> found the themes mentioned above in the thread>hit install. Once I hit install, it acts like it is installing then the screen goes transparent gray, and the themes do not install. Any suggestions? Don't know if this is a wordpress issue or what? Please help!!!

        I was having a hard time trying to access my own website on WP yesterday (even got a 505 page at one point). Maybe it was something wrong with your host?

    Did you FTP the theme to your server, or just click Install from admin panel?

    Possible your wp-content directory is not writeable?

    Hard to know for sure without seeing it.

      Just clicked install, this is the way I have always done it on other sites and never had a problem. Sorry, but what does not writable mean, and how could I check? Thanks!

    Yes: learn FTP and upload your themes through FTP. (You will thank me later...)
