Making Landing Pages HTML vs. 1 image-mapped jpeg

I started a new job at a new company the m.o. for building new landing pages has been for creative to make a Photoshop file and for the web marketing team to image map it in dreamweaver and throw it up on the site.

I think it's a no brainer that pages should be as much HTML/CSS as possible, but am having trouble arguing why. Besides SEO and page weight/load time, what other reasons can I give?

Idiots don't understand what SEO is. Clever people don't either. Because it is a stupid jargon.

    1. Search engines can NOT read and index text hidden in an image - this should get to everybody's brain, even if they don't know anything about html! In other words: SEs cannot find that site.

    2. Any client on a slow/bad internet connection will hate the smart@ss marketers who made 'websites' out of huge images.

Finally, what is your job among these idiots? Are you hired to do the web things or...? Who has the last word in what is going into a website and what not?

It's true I have lost several jobs in this way but my approach has always been like: am I the webguy or is there someone else? If I am the webguy I tell everybody what a website is - that's why you hired me. If you know better, do it without me: I won't participate in stoopid exercises

The bigger the company, the more "web experts" you have to deal with! Until basically nothing ever gets done.

HTML/CSS is always the best option
