Making Membership Sites Mobile Friendly

I am building a membership site that will consist of mostly video. It seems to me that most membership sites that I have belonged to do not optimize their video for mobile(at least iOS). I want to create a site that people can pull out their iPads or other tablets/smartphone and watch my videos.

The site will built with Wordpress, DAP, and Optimizepress. I will probably host the vids on S3. Any recommendations for the best formatting options for the vids and for a plugin to display the vids?

    Hey Jeff,

First off, all OptimizePress pages use CSS/HTML to control the layouts which mean that most mobile browsers will be able to translate the content to a mobile platform, but the sites OptimizePress creates are not specifically mobile optimized. OptimizePress includes a mobile compatible video player already integrated for iPad/iPhone.

As for the video, you should use HandBrake to optimize your video for the web and for mobile devices. The best video format for the web is .mp4.

Using HandBrake, you can select the output formats of iPhone & iPod Touch, iPhone 4, iPad,and AppleTV. Also you can select the normal video size for playback on PC's. Additionally, you should select web optimized video.

As a member of OptimizePress, James Dyson explains in the "Preparing Your Video For Web" training video (all the way at the bottom in the members section) that you can actually save the video file at 716x400 (definitely less than 720 wide) which you can use for your PC users and this will be compatible for the iPad and the newer iPhones will be able to play these videos as well.

The older iPhones will not be able to play these videos and you'll need to render an additional video no wider than 400.

Finally, on the members page in WordPress, scroll under your content and choose Membership Options --> Activate Video --> Enter your URL. If you follow the HandBrake tutorial video in the OptimizePress members area, you'll see that one video is used for all devices, PC's and mobile devices.

I use Amazon S3 as you can see from the screenshot below:

    Best,

    Logan
